My favorite Jackson Browne song! This one and his others were all over the radio when I was growing up in the 70s. We were sooo lucky to have the great music we had and such a big variety of music of different genres.

This song is so amazing and he wrote it when he was 16 years old. Jackson Browne has so many great albums. He's a great singer/songwriter.

Glen Fry used to live upstairs from Jackson and one day Glen heard Jackson work on a song; playing a little bit, tweaking here and there, polishing this and that, erase and go another direction, almost one note at a time, one word at a time, piecing it together all day, for a few days. Glen said that was a learning experience on how to "work" on a song until it's done. The determination, the dedication, the work, the effort. Great songs often don't just fall out of the sky, they sometimes get worked on a piece at a time.

This is the song that started my 51 year love affair with Jackson's music. I've seen him 17 times in concert. I highly recommend listening to the live version of "Lives In The Balance" with David Crosby and Graham Nash. One of Jackson's best, imo.

Jackson Browne can write a great song, and then he can deliver it with passion. Mr. Browne is great in concert, and he has an excellent band backing him up.

Jackson is, IMO, a top 10 singer/songwriter. The Pretender got a lot of radio play and is lyrically deep. But Jackson's greatest songwriting is on the album, Late For The Sky. Bruce Springstein called the album Jackson's masterpiece when he introduced Jackson into the rock hall of fame. None of the songs are commercial hits but songs like: Late For The Sky (title song), For a Dancer, Fountain of Sorrow, and Before the Deluge. These are wonderful deep and musically solid songs, with a touch of sadness.

Jesse Ed Davis with the great guitar solo. The Native American was so well-respected in rock circles that he played with everyone, including George Harrison, John Lennon, Leon Russell, Rod Stewart, and Eric Clapton (as well as many other notables). He died from a drug overdose at the age of 43.

Looking back when I watch the various "Reaction Channels" I truly can't believe how much great Rock music we had in the 60s and 70s. That was, and still is the gold standard for music. Because as people call us folks over 65 (I'm 67") out of touch, well I was in my teens and twenties in those two decades, so I have something to judge today's "music" against. Truthfully, the crap they call music these days, either sounds like every other artist that can't sing, or the songs flat out suck. There is some good music, but it is so rare. Rock Bands and solo artists as we knew them, just don't exist anymore. NO Beatles, Rolling Stones Beach Boys, etc. Now you have something called "Hip-Hop, or "Rap". That ain't music.

It's about balance man. Every human being struggles with this and it's fantastic to Jackson Browne could capture it so well but it's also fantastic that you're just talking about this stuff in reaction to a song from decades ago. The whole thing is pretty amazing.

In the northwoods isolation of my high school years, this song was my introduction to Jackson Browne, coming out of the lo-fi sound of am radio. Great song that I didn't really understand until a few years later, after having left adolescent ignorance behind.

This album is loaded with gems. The cover art is a burlap sack used to supplement the radiator in older cars to help keep the radiator from boiling over during desert crossings and other hot drives. I forget the proper name for those items but I remember using them back around and before the time of this album’s release. One saturated the sack to help keep the engine running normally. Sometimes it would even work.

I beliece this was his first commercial hit or at least one of his earliest. Jackson is an amazing singer/songwriter as your discovering and you're in store for more great lyrics and music from him. "Fountain of Sorrow", "Tender is the Night" and "The Pretender" are great songs for a reaction.

He's a good one. Jackson Browne has a lot of great songs. Too many to list. The Running On Empty album is flawless. You could randomly pick anything from that one and love it. My favorite Jackson Browne song is from the his debut album which you just played. It's called Rock Me On the Water. One of my favorite songs period.

Jackson Browne's masterpiece album "Late for the Sky" is, lyrically and emotionally, the most honest, heartfelt album he's ever released. His catalog is filled with top-shelf killer albums, but "Late for the Sky" is on a different level. Songs like 'For A Dancer' .'Before the Deluge', 'Further On,' 'Late For The Sky,'' 'Fountain of Sorrow,'' The Late Show' and others. Jackson is a master of touching your heart emotionally with words and music.

I saw Jackson two nights ago, sittin in with Jackshit, his guitarist Val McCallum's band. He did Take It Easy / Our Lady of the Well. I've uploaded some of the audio and video from that performance. Doctor My Eyes is a recent Playing for Change selection. An iconic tune from an immensely talented and hardworking singer / songwriter. I was so lucky to grow up when I did. It makes up for the wrinkles and arthritis I have from coming up at a time when we didn't know about melanoma and doctors advertised cigarettes on TeeVee. 😂

That is a desert water bag, which were used in front of radiators on cars from the 1920s, '30s, '40s, and '50s. You would fill them with water at a service station and then soak the outside of the bag, which would then be hung from a hood latch. The idea is like an evaporative cooler. We had them in Arizona, but I don't recall whether they actually worked. One thing was for sure -- you did NOT want to drink the water inside!

You can appreciate the beauty in the world while not ignoring the bad. Sometimes I can feel guilty that I have it good, while others are being abused. We shouldn't turn away, but understand we are limited in what we can do. Empathizing is important, but agonizing does no good for anyone. We can help and should when we can. But in the meantime, I love me some Jackson Browne.

My memory (foggy) is : that album cover burlap bag was an old fashioned western desert canteen from the 60’s & before (40’s ?). I don’t know the physics or facts … but to make it hold water, you had to wet the material = “Saturate before using” , otherwise all the water just leaked out . I loved me some Jackson Browne so much I named my boy Jackson!

As the water on the bag evaporated it cools the water in the bag. Similar to what an Olla does.

Not only was Jackson Browne great doing his own albums he is a stellar distinct songwriter who worked with so many people who thought of him as a fixer. The guy who could come in an get the vibe right. His work on Nico's " Chelsea Girl " LP like the melancholy " These Days " is phenomenal.

You filled the bag with water and hung it in front of the radiator, as it evaporated it helped the radiator cool the engine. This song released in England by the Jackson Five for a top 10. I'd suggest a live video next, it's The Load Out/Stay Live BBC 1978, an amazing song and performance. It's iconic. Other songs to check out include Rock Me on the Water, The Pretender, and Somebody's Baby. Browne also co-wrote Take It Easy, I believe the first single from The Eagles, and has a fine version of the song as well.
