The older I get the more I understand the meaning of this song. For someone to write a song like this at a young age, amazing.
@randallbutler2736

I first heard this song when I was 16 years old. I felt like Jackson had written it for me. The Vietnam war was winding down with protests in the street. My parents were looking down on the protesters as a bunch of no good hippies that have nothing better to do, and so were most of my friends. All that I could think of were my older than me, but still young neighbors that were drafted and never to come home. It seemed like to me that I was the only one paying attention. Hearing this song helped me realize that I was not alone in my thoughts.

Jackson Browne is one of the legends of the modern R & R scene. A pioneer who wrote more hits for others than he had himself. One thing for sure, the world will never see another time like the late 60's/early 70's LA music scene. It basically birthed the music you play on your channel.

I did my homework with the radio playing. It’s been such a big part of my life that every song has a place and time and people connected to it. Music is life!

I've seen the man live. 10 years ago. Just him, with 17 guitars on a rack in front of him (yeah, I counted) and a keyboard. I was in Heaven during the concert and so was he because he said that he was used to doing arenas, but this was the National Arts Center in Ottawa and the acoustics there are fabulous. This is a rabbit hold you will love... The Pretender, Running on Empty, Lives in the Balance, In the Shape of a Heart, Sleep's Dark and Silent Gate, oh man... there are so many and as a songwriter, he leaves you breathless, worn out and wanting more, even if it kills you. :-)

I had lunch with JB two years ago. Such a nice man, he does so many good things that people don’t know about. He has adopted several people in his family such as my son’s friend (JB’s nephew/adopted son). His mother died so Jackson adopted him so he could take care of him, he has adopted other family members as well (to help them). He lives completely off the grid near where I live. JB tours all year (except during pandemics) and most of his concerts are benefits to help native Americans as well as other people that are held down. His latest music is very deep. JB got arrested many years ago protesting a nuke plant near here.

One of the great song writers of our time. I like everything. The year I heard my first Jackson Browne song was the same year I wore a groove into my big 45 of "Rappers Delight" When he was inducted into the Rock and Roll HOF by Bruce Springsteen in 2004. Bruce said this about Jackson Browne's song writing "what draws women to Jackson was they finally heard a guy who knew as much about love as they did, and what drew men to Jackson was that when they listened to Jackson they realized they knew more about love than they thought they did. He's a poet. That what good song writing is right? it transcends time and place, race and creed and damn don't we all need some transcending now.

Tedderman johns Since it was actually a Don Henley tune that got them signed I’d say they were already destined for success . The difference between the industry then and now is , then everyone helped and encouraged each other . They wrote songs for each other , recorder their songs even played together in shows they weren’t being paid to play . Today everyone is stingy, aggressive and threatened by another artist talents to the point of sabotaging them or stealing their music , so they don’t have to compete with anyone or do the hard work for themselves .

Jamel, his In the Shape of a Heart will bring a tear to your eye, especially when you learn some stuff that's behind it, the Pretender too. A great songwriter, one of the few writers that can write love songs, political songs and socially conscious songs all with equal excellence and his voice is iconic(like James Taylor). Always has great musicians playing with him.

I love when young people listen to the music I grew up with in the late 60's/70's. I hate to sound like an old lady (56 isn't that old, is it?) - but one of my favorites I'd like you to listen to is Earth, Wind & Fire's "September". Talk about feel good song. I think it came in 1978. It's always on my playlist and just makes me happy.
