Jackson Browne- channelling songs from a place noone can see or understand.. He is a religion if you dont have one, a revival when you need one, a redemption for all who suffer or need to release what they hold tightest.. Listen, learn, love - one of a kind soul.

@@seattlebeard To think it was written for Joni Michell. I hope she forgives him for being just one or two yrs and a couple of changes behind him - in his lessons of loves pain and heartache school - Young man of poetry in motion that he was. I will remember him in my heart being a couple of changes and one or two yrs behind him - as his music came out I was going through what he was singing about. Blew me away and made me realize how just one human can effect and be effected by another - to change and grow a whole generation of hearts. Peace to all heartfelt people growing love.

feb 1974 hitchhiked with my girlfriend and little sister in a blizzard from Syracuse to Cortland to attend a show that was just freakin incredible...linda Ronstadt opened for Jackson and this was shortly after late for the sky was released...they opened the doors early due to the cold and that little college gym became a cozy living room filled with the most moving and emotional music.....the band had david lindley and doug haywood and was just so spot on and thrilling...so glad to hear this clip and be reminded of those so much earlier and innocent times and how great music endures and remains relevant to our lives.....

I would play this song while driving Alone in Sarasota.Fla. . i was there to viist my Mom in the Nursing home, my husband remained in New York. I was gad to be free, yet I well knew "that hollow sound of my own steps in flight" Or I was pulling out of the driveway, fleeing relentless damaging rant of words, abuse. While alone and Safe, Fountain of Sorrow, had me in tears as I KNEW the 'Truth'. I had to say it's over, admit to myself that the spontaneous barrage o lies was wasting my Life. Ti was years waiting for our daughter' college graduaton. After 33 years, Jackson's words , told me what U had to DO!

Souther was Glenn Frey's roommate when they lived upstairs from Jackson Brown in the early 70s, pre-Eagles. Glenn and JD first heard Take it Easy in its unfinished form through the floor from Jackson's basement apartment. Glenn pestered Jackson so much about using that song that he let Frey finish the last "flatbed ford" verse. I've heard that it was Randy Meisner that opposed Souther being an early member of the Eagles. Not sure about that, though.

Souther on harmony vocals, Browne showed that he hasn't lost a step in the decades since "Fountain Of Sorrow" was released. On this night, though, the epic recounting of a love lost is given bright new life with help from Tim Lauer's lilting piano, the McCrary Sisters' soaring voices and Ry Cooder's steely slide.”

GEEZ, Peter Berger--(or should I say Petter Berger?) You rave about the Eagles as if you know them personally, but TWICE you misspell Glenn Frey's name in your post!!! It's spelled, G-L-E-N-N-, not G-L-E-N!!! Why should we care about your opinion when you are so unaware of the most basic facts of whom you speak? I'm sorry to blast you on this, but it is too blatant to let slide under the circumstances! Better luck next time. Tony =^,,^=

He had the most beautiful voice, but he often didn't let it out, for some reason. Linda Ronstadt once said he was her favorite vocalist(and songwriter)...I guess she'd know. I saw him perform the summer after he finally had a big hit on the radio(Only Lonely)...and he sounded really good during that concert...his voice so clear and true.

I hope that this great piece is getting some extra views as people look for the work of JD Souther upon the news of his passing. He is joined here by Buddy Miller, Ry Cooder, and Don Was (on bass) who somehow seems to have a hand in the best music of the past 3 decades at some level, all in support of Jackson Browne.

Good on ya Mr Browne.. great song ... keep these classics alive forever please.. because so much music today is disposable. Your songs from The Pretender, Running on Empty, Late For the Sky, Hold Out,, are some of the most sensitive and organics songs ever. They hold up beautifully because they are honest, and lyrically universal and philosophical. Of course you had great players along to help shape it.. bringing in shades or rock, country, folk, blues, gospel and classical. Your gifts are appreciated.

This is may be my favorite JB song ever. And because it is one of the best songs ever written, lyric-wise, here it is in its entirety. Looking through some photographs I found inside a drawer I was taken by a photograph of you There were one or two I know that you would have liked a little more But they didn't show your spirit quite as true You were turning 'round to see who was behind you And I took your childish laughter by surprise And at the moment that my camera happened to find you There was just a trace of sorrow in your eyes Now, the things that I remember seem so distant and so small Though it hasn't really been that long a time What I was seeing wasn't what was happening at all Although for a while our path did seem to climb When you see through love's illusions, there lies the danger And your perfect lover just looks like a perfect fool So you go running off in search of a perfect stranger While the loneliness seems to spring from your life Like a fountain from a pool Fountain of sorrow, fountain of light You've known that hollow sound of your own steps in flight You've had to hide sometimes, but now you're all right And it's good to see your smiling face tonight Now, for you and me it may not be that hard to reach our dreams But that magic feeling never seems to last And all the future's there for anyone to change, still you know it seems It would be easier sometimes to change the past I'm just one or two years and a couple of changes behind you In my lessons at love's pain and heartache school Where if you feel too free and you need something to remind you There's this loneliness springing up from your life Like a fountain from a pool Fountain of sorrow, fountain of light You've known that hollow sound of your own steps in flight You've had to hide sometimes, but now you're all right And it's good to see your smiling face tonight Fountain of sorrow, fountain of light You've known that hollow sound of your own steps in flight You've had to struggle, you've had to fight To keep understanding and compassion in sight You could be laughing at me, you've got the right But you go on smiling so clear and so bright
