I'm not crying, you're crying, she said as the tears flowed down her face like a river to the sea...sigh. No musician can stir such emotions within me like the Poetry Man. Every song a melodic and lyrical masterpiece. Viva la Jackson Browne!

I saw him in 2016 with the same set up and it was awesome! This is my favorite song, besides Call It A Loan. Who would "thumbs down" this beautiful song??

Somehow it's comforting to see that this song makes other people cry. And that we all seem to have such personal connections to For A Dancer.

This song has always seemed to be written for my daughter, Aprell, who died nearly 30 years ago.

The Hebrew custom was that tears came from the pericardium surrounding the heart when it was squeezed as sadness overwhelms us at times. And that the word for tears and for mists that covered the earth like foggy clouds and for God's memory is all the same root. Jackson gives music to those salty sad waters flowing since the dawn of creation, gives us a place for us to cry and to remember and to share with those who have gone before us and who have cried before us and who somehow through it still find joy or at least peace. Jackson Browne you help give my heart its voice. Peace be with you, Blessings surround you.

I'm so crying right now😢 I've lost 5 friends myself. Saddest thing to ever go thru. My dearest closest g/f died recently. I spent the whole day with her a week before she passed. She was confined to her bed by now. She didn't speak much but she would smiled squeezed my hand and I never cried. We would share glances now and then she would say very little. She knew I was there. Reliving old stories of our dear friendship of 35 years. I said something funny. She looked at me and called me funny girl. And we laughed a little. Well when I went leave she actually lifted up in the bed and we hugged real hard. Hard as we could she was so frail. I cried all the way home that day and I'm crying now😭. I kissed her and told her I loved her and she said I love you too Nancy. God why? She was the real Angel. A pure soul in every sense. I had come to grips knowing first off God wanted her more than us and 2nd she is up there partyinggggg with all those great musicians and quite frankly I can't wait to get there now. I have two great things to look forward to. These songs if yours CJB so touch my soul. Ty you ever so❤️

This song makes me cry every time. Reminds me of my girlfriend who passed suddenly. And reminded her of her mom who committed suicide.

WOW THE VERY 1ST TO COMMENT..JACKSON IS OVER THE TOP, AS ALWAYS, DEPENDING ON THE SOUND/P.A/ SYSTEM. DAVID LINDLEY IS ABSENT. THOSE "2"ARTISTS ARE VERY GOOD, TOO.

If David Lindley can't be there, Sara and Sean Watkins were great stand ins.

@@1stGeorgiaGirl no one can beat Mr. Dave instrumentally, but Ms. Watkins holds her own on fiddle and "that girl can sing" as Jackson might put it! Outstanding version of a great song.

This song is about his wife's suicide. It's tragic but beautiful.

It’s actually about a dancer friend of his that died. He wrote and recorded this a few years before his wife’s death.

Gosh I didn't know that. But, really, I'm sure I did know that. Thank you for articulating this in your beautiful way, Jackson. And for sharing it. For those of you who know Dorothy Hershkowitz, beautiful dancer with Martha Graham, Merce Cunningham, Joanie Block and others, it always seemed to be written for her. "Playing the clown" or cutting through time and space or, as she said, keeping the plane flying is her eternal and continual cadence. 12/14/44 Queens - 4/6/07 Newton. I would say rest in peace, but I know, sweet Dorothy, you will never rest until all of us have peace. Shanti. L'Ch'iam.
