Thank you for this reaction. Honestly it is a little emotional to hear about this song again since this is Jackson's first solo under Team Wang, when he first decided to have his own label years back. He mentioned in some of his interviews it was only him and his manager at the beginning. JYP did not allow his to mention Got7 when he promotes in China with Team Wang, so he was literally starting all over again. JYP did not allow his to promote his solo work in Korea, and he has to constantly fly between the two countries within the day even. And he got so much hate from some ot6 people. It was a tough time for him. But look at him now. This is why I am so proud of him and how far he has gone.

He speaks Chinese (Cantonese) and mandarin ( which is a language spoken in another region) English, a lil bit of French because fencing is a French sport and all the rules are in French, he often speaks some sentences whenever he’s in France or when he’s being asked but he’s not fluent in it. He also can speak some words in Japanese I believe. Your analysis was actually pretty on point ! He inspired himself from the old movie « papillon » about a dude nicknamed papillon condemn of life prison for a crime he didn’t commit he meets some dude and together they’re gonna plan their escape to recover their freedom. So somehow your analysis was also very right !

"Did you see the *cheval* behind him?" 🤣 Papillon is Jackson's debut song and it was inspired by the Papillon movie, and of course his own struggles and the music industry/the "system". It's easily one of the most powerful and impactful solo debuts to come out of a kpop group. Papillon went so viral in China that it's called the "Chinese national anthem" 😭 What I love most about the song is its lyrics, they're so meaningful and have a deep personal meaning (anyone who knows Jackson's story would know what he means). The song is even better live, do check out some live performances of it in your own time. Jackson speaks a lot of languages - English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Shanghainese, Korean, Japanese, some French (because he was an Olympic-level fencer) and some Thai. Great reaction.
