Running on empty a 20 year old Marine out of Marine Barracks Washington DC driving on that freeway into Virginia on an early Summer day. With the bright blue sky and sun, the whole world glowing that early summer green. The fresh warm air blowing on my face through the open window. Wearing my pressed uniform with that eagle, globe and anchor. I still remember that stretch of open road down that long slope seemed like I could see for a hundred miles. This song always takes me back to the 80’s. Everything was ahead of me and I was in a race to prove myself. Nothing was impossible and I had no fear with all the time in the world to get there. That’s where I am every time I hear this song. And I hope they play it at my funeral. Because I hope my love ones remember me the way this song reminds me of how I felt that day. Semper Fi

I still get excited if I hear it buying groceries, or when I have a craving for it, and dial it up on KZbin. It does make me sad. The passage of time. I got to see him in the mid-1980s, second row center seats! It was the best time I've ever had at a concert. My boyfriend bought those tickets for my birthday, and being an avid sewist, I made us both matching shirts with crazy neon print fabric that looked like an acid trip. I figured if we got separated in the crowd it would make it easy to find each other.😉 When Jackson played his song, "For a Rocker" he grinned and pointed at us when he got to the verse: "I've got a shirt so unbelievably bright I'm gonna dig it out and wear it tonight For a rocker!" 🤯😝 That was when legendary guitarist, David Lindley, was with the band. He was a fantastic songwriter and performer in his own right, I love his solo albums (that's Lindley shown at :07).❤ Lindley died last year from complications of long covid he contacted covid in 2020. Feck covid! It also took John Prine from us, along with so many other loved ones.😭

It rained all day so they postponed the show to the following day but around 300 people showed up anyway not having heard about the cancellation so Jackson came out and played probably a half a set. It was fantastic. He was chatting with everyone in the crowd and as you can see, the weather broke and it was beautiful. It was my first visit to The Rocks so I was in awe of everything. Jackson was so down to earth and personable - just a real class act. The next night we came back for the full show. Two days I will never forget.

I was in the sixth grade when this song hit the air waves. My reasons to live have been working out. I am now a 64 year old, very grateful grandfather. I appreciate the times I've spent with people and those relationships. Those horrible nightmares I had that used to wake up the whole house around 2am, went away many years ago after many years for IT to finally do that. [I had an NDE accident at 3.5 yrs. old: that I still feel, every awake moment.] Thank goodness for Pain Clinics and pain management physicians and their personnel. Now, I am chuckling to myself, again.... Man I need to listen to my boxes of old albums. I am pretty sure I have at least one of theirs, that I mowed neighborhood lawns to buy, starting in the 6th grade. Look at me now Ma. Older, the youngest and the last one left of that generation of my family - and still glowing with: "The Holy Spirits That We Are & Better Strive To Become". Peace to you and yours also. I don't know about anyone else but me and mine. I am Okay, You Are Okay, too. So, go ahead: put the ear pods on with volume up. Then dance or dream of dancing to your heart's desires. I now skip over to a good version of "The Southern Cross" song renditions......

It’s sad young people now stay at home on the weekends. When I was a teen headed to our small town of 2000, I could hear all the traffic of my friends and most of the time tell who was who by their exhaust sound. (Cherry Bombs, thrush glass packs). Now after forty two years of marriage and 4 kids and 6 grandkids, I live 4 or 5 blocks from city hall. I can hear a pin drop on the weekends. No one riding around anymore. That’s how we hooked up, stopping a chick and “parking.” No cell phones, no social media.

I'm from So CA and graduated in 86' but play golf with a guy that was class of 76' at Sunny Hills HS. Jackson Browne also went to Sunny Hills HS, class of 66'. I used to hear this tune, and where he's say "In 65 I was 17""and I'd swap it for in 85' I was 17. Not a huge fan but can totally appreciate his musicianship, and looking back now at all of the great acts from the 70's it amazes me how if you view the music as a whole from say 1967-1980 it's like a big puzzle where the pieces fit perfectly because every group had their specific genre and nitch.
@cowboysfan7820088 ай бұрын
Actually that would make a great jigsaw puzzle if the pieces came together to show all of those great bands!

This song is well written, it takes me back to when life was more of a team effort rather than Dog -Eat-Dog. I remember neighbors coming over sitting on the front porch listening to WMMS Home of the Buzzard in Cleveland, those were great times! I now am an advocate for trying to bring love and unity back to our society. Thank you Jackson Brown for the energy bump! Cheers to all!

@@woopass2010 I hope you're incorrect, though your sentiment is the greater view. I personally believe that the root of all flames were exhibiting stem from the change of having a dedicated parent at home, or more generally speaking, our lack of parenting. I had always thought that such was the very root of all problems until I began trying to think of a resolution "how do you tell a society we're lacking parenting, or tell them how important it is, it being the most important role on our planet. White I was thinking on this, President Trump was coming to my neighborhood and he said my answer "we've got to get God back in our lives". From this statement came my new goal. Thanks for your reply!

@GlennKitchen I wish I was wrong but unless you live in a small town where you know everybody and everybody shares the same culture and ideas its hard to cooperate, look at the big cities you can't even walk around at night without getting robbed or raped, why? Because this isn't the same country as it used to be, both racially and culturally, moving from a smaller town to a bigger city taught me that real quick
@GlennTKitchen8 ай бұрын
@@woopass2010 But again, where does foul behavior come from? When I was in Middle School the worst happening was a student getting caught smoking a cigarette, the only greater event was being caught smoking a joint. Now the worst is shooting up your classmates, your teacher then heading home and taking out your parents. This change comes from a devaluing of life. Where does this come from? From the absence of love a child requires in rearing. Further, I do agree with you on the big city affect and I believe it's more about those who choose the big city then it is the size of the city. It's all about distractions from the true essence of life with all the hustle and hustle, night life and all. Great speaking with you! Cheers and may our lives be like the Small Town (John Cougar Melloncamp)

I was born in 69 and grew up listening to Jackson, Eddie Money, Guess Who, Eagles, Wings, Bob Seeger, Beatles, Stones, Van Halen, Elton John, Billy Joel, Clapton, Boston, Aerosmith, Willie Nelson, BB King, Heart, Queen, Genesis, REO Speedwagon, CCR, Skynyrd, Bad Company, Allman Brothers, Buddy Guy, Foreigner, Stevie Ray Vaughan, ZZ Top, America, Little River Band, Styx, AC⚡DC, Kansas, Journey, Supertramp, Pink Floyd, and so much more great music. My parents were obviously big music fans of the 60s and 70s and it definitely rubbed off on me. Like Bob Seager said "Today's music ain't got the same soul" So Glad to be early Gen-X. Born in late '66 to a family that always had music in the room, I heard a lot of Jackson Brown. By the time I was in high school I was turning toward punk and new wave, dating girls with blue hair, and resisting the temptation to reintroduce my ears to the songs that came before. I still listen to new music, but it is getting harder to find gems on the trash covered beach that is today's industry. So when I need music that is just downright perfect, I throw on a Jackson Browne tune. Sometimes it makes me well up a little... well, more than just sometimes.

This was the song that got me to buy the album that turned me on to Jackson Browne. 2 years later when I went off to school, I spent endless hours in the library listening to everything they had by him. Over the next 3 years I begged borrowed and stole to get every album he'd released, and continued to buy through the 80s. So much great music so meaningful, so moving, so uplifting and at times full of melancholy. Thank you Jackson Browne for nearly half a century (for me) of music, conscience, and enlightenment...for tears for joy and for plain old fun. You're the best!

I came up in the 70's, so much great music, life was simpler then, even tho we were young. We had full intentions of bringing world peace, and could not possibly understand why there was "war"...As a whole, we didnt ask for much - we loved our music and each other....but as Bob Segar sang, 'wish I didnt know now what I didnt know then'... We grew up, and things changed drastically, but my heart, soul, and music AND THE 70's live on and always will....
