This really represents Jevil. Though he tries to kill you, as any boss does, he isn't a villain. He just does whatever, knowing there won't be any consequences, because he knows Deltarune is just a computer game and that he's just another character, and that everyone's fate is decided by the player- If the player decides to play Deltarune, they will live on, and if they stop, everything will pause until the player comes back, and if they just ultimately stop forever, their entire coded universe will be doomed to an infinite time stop, and simply having that knowledge is what made Jevil insane, and that's exactly how this OST captures him. Triumphant, Chaotic, but nowhere near malicious.

My favorite thing about Jevil: He acts like everything is random, keeps spouting the word "chaos," even Kris' action seems random at first, but literally *none of it* is random. I expected a lot of things to be random, such as what Kris' act command does, but you'll see there's actually a table of what it does specifically based on turn count. Basically, if you forget that everything is themed around chaos, and perform the fight based on knowing what will happen and when like some kind of time traveler, you can successfully predict all of it. You can't do that with true randomness (ask speedrunners who have to deal with actual RNG and you might get a pretty salty answer). So yeah. I like it a lot. Jevil tricked me really good.

What i love about this chapter so much is that every main character you meet in the dark world (with the exception of Ralsei who is supposed to represent Asriel) corresponds to a card in the deck Chaos King = King of Spades (obviously) Lancer = Ace of Spades Rouxls Kaard = Rules Card Jevil = Joker Card Even more powerful regular enemies like Clover could be just a higher card like a 9 or 10

I always hear people talk about how hard Jevil's theme goes (and it does, oh my god it does) but no one talks about how beautifully tragic it really is. It almost feels triumphant, however there's still a hint of insanity and denial in it. Given by the accordian, mainly. The part at 0:40 always punches me in the gut though, because it's the musical form of "look! I've won! I'm free!" then it goes to a much low tune. A more, "in order to cope with what's happened to me, I've had to twist my world view." The theme is absolutely perfect for Jevil, someone who's been through terrible things, yet still looks at their world as a game. Or, more fittingly, a carousel. A costantly spinning world that never stops, but always stays the same.

God, every time i hear the first 5 seconds of this song my animal instincts kick in. Not because of the battle, no no. Instead, because i made this my alarm, and every morning i hear the first 5 seconds of it before immediately slamming my hand on my phone to shut it up.
