One of the best race tracks in the country - Jacksonville Speedway - had a situation occur, that has left the #racing #world in tears.

My dad was hit by two stock cars as a flagman when races were still flagged from the infield. Thankfully he survived and that’s a practice that’s now virtually extinct. Prayers for all at Jacksonville. Most officials do it because they love racing, this is tragic!

That’s impossible to do. Especially on a 1/4 mile track while you’re standing in the infield. There were cars spread all over the track during the incident. No way you could have had your eyes on every single car. You had to have your back turned somewhere.

Had an Official struck by a racecar at my local track several years back. Perhaps the most horrific thing that my eyes have ever witnessed. Prayers to those affected by this unfortunate incident.

Do these sprint cars have gas pedals that are built to allow the driver to pull the throttle back when it sticks? I'm speaking of the pedals that your foot fits in and your toes are enclosed allowing the driver to manually close the throttle? Also, what about kill switches? Are they installed on the steering wheel?

They do have fuel shut off valves, and a kill switch but you have to be coherent enough to be able to hit the valve and the switch. In a stuck throttle situation, most of the times you are in panic mode if you arent already knocked un conscious. Never had it happen on track but have had it happen on a routine push off at home and its for sure scary.

Make a brake pedal that when compressed to 125% for more than 1 second or 1.5 automatically complete a kill switch circuit. There is always a way & every single tragedy in racing is preventable, but to what lengths and sacrifice are people willing to go. One reason I love sprint car racing is because it is dangerous & one must be brave to race sprint cars on dirt.

Other than remote kill switches like monster truck racing has, unfortunately these kinds of incidents will continue to happen until they install retaining fencing around the infield and make everyone stay behind it while the track is hot.

I feel that if the infield is completely open the safety crew should be on standby by right near the track entrance. I’m kinda surprised that insurance companies don’t require safety crews to be more protected

Damn ive dreamed of the day somebody puts me in there 100,000 dollar race car since I was 8 years old.... never had the money or chance.... I guess I never tried hard enough myself... im a carpenter and mechanic by family trade...jus followed in foot steps when I shouldn't have.... but I know I have talent if I ever had a chance at it... so if u know somebody that will put me in a dirt car I will sure commit the rest of my life to being the best race car driver in dirt...I promise that much..... somebody make my dream come true.... I would be love you forever.... give me a shot....thats all I ask

All tracks need to either build a barrier around the infield or get track officials off the track while cars are on it period it's stupid to have a open infield with atleast one place to keep ur employees safe
