Jimmy, a little advice on the water going to the headers. You're right, reversion is sucking water from the exhaust into the engine. @@fast97z24 Look up "water injected headers" and you'll see the little pieces welded onto each pipe where you clamp on a hose. What it's supposed to do is continuously inject a very small amount of water, and the exhaust pressure turns it into a mist, constantly coating the inside of the headers to keep them cool. The only reason to do it is for chrome or painted headers, so they stay looking nicer for longer. Jackstand's problem is they are putting in too much water, which is draining into the cylinders causing worse performance, and as Cleetus noticed, slowly getting into the oil as well.

That's only in the exhaust exits through the boat but your hangs in the air over the edge so just leave the water off, that's why you're having issues with it because those headers arent suposed to have water in them they will flood the motor, water cooled headers have a hump an water sprays after the hump so it cant go Into the motor, please just unhook those water lines

You're describing water jacketed headers, not water injected headers. He should have a spring loaded check valve in there that shuts off the water flow at idle. And only misting them under load. They never need to be fully opened to work correctly.

Hey James, you don't need to run water through the headers. The reason they run water through exhaust manifold on marine engines are for cooler engine bay when the engine are in a enclosed compartment and less smoke out the back. Without the water cooling the stock exhaust manifolds it would be hot as hell in a boats engine bay, your headers are air cooled and way up above the boat. If you think the headers are going to be to hot running at high rpm, well the NASCAR run on full throttle for hours and don't need any water cooling the headers.
@earlbrown3 жыл бұрын
You're not allowed to run injected headers in a closed engine bay. When there's an engine cover, you're required to run jacketed exhaust.

just gonna start saying im not boat guy. im a car and off road guy. but i was wondering are we sure its just to cool the headers?? i dont see a radiator anywhere on that boat and i feel like its to also cool the motor as a whole. like with the few jet skis and boats ive worked on none had a sweet ass v8 powering them but the water always cooled the engine. but at the same time it kinda cooled the exhaust as well because thats where the now used hot water was dumped after it cycled through to cool the engine. pretty sure all that water is being cycled completely through the engine before being dumped into the headers cooling it all off as a whole. but like i said im a car guy i might be wrong feel free to tell me if i am.
@earlbrown3 жыл бұрын
@@JamesDean-yo8wm the jet pump supplies the engine with cooling water then dumps it. The entire lake is the radiator. You have to put a valve on it to slow down the flow of water so it doesn't run too cool as speed. Injecting water into the headers is to keep them from getting too hot and potentially causing a fire. it also acts as a legal muffling device.

Can we have a Squirrel Story Hour? With George as our favorite mulleted-munter, Squirrel telling crazy tales of broken down trucks, less-than-legal parts acquisition and mad days/nights at the strip? Or Giraffe Science, with cleet doing some tech specs and teaching some tuning. JackStand Jimmy's mo-power know how, examining parts combinations for different setups. Just some ideas, ignore at your leisure

Setting timing at 1400- if it’s got mechanical advance, you’re running a 700rpm timing of minus 4. That’s the reason why it’s all finicky. You should just hold it at 3k, and set all in at 34deg.

Just turn the water off. Those headers are already beat, so no need to worry about getting them hot and ruining the pretty chrome that's not on them.
@spaceemperorkarl1213 жыл бұрын
Really hope Jackstand keeps that boat. So awesome.
@stoneshrink3 жыл бұрын
leave the water off to the stacks. The point of the water is to muffle the sound - if you don't need to muffle, you don't need the water... and that, folks, is the difference between wet stacks and dry stacks....
@doccyclopz3 жыл бұрын
@Bills BuildAll Yeah, to keep the chrome looking pretty , but it really does lessen the noise. Since this one's not running Mirror like chrome you could run it with little or no water and probably up the HP a tad. IMHO
@stoneshrink3 жыл бұрын
@Bills BuildAll it does, but it's purpose is sound deadening. Granted, the sound difference would be akin the difference between a 747 taking off and a F4 Phantom on full afterburner - but it really does make a difference.... that said, in this case, turn the water off to the manifolds.
@stoneshrink3 жыл бұрын
@@doccyclopz 100% . the difference in temp is it will take .02 seconds to 1st degree burn with the water v. .01s without.

8:20 You should be at 3k to break-in that cam because of the flat lifters. Also, I didn’t see a high zinc oil go in the ole girl. Come on man.

I just said the same thing. After it was all put back together he said I might do an oil change. That oil with all that water in it will wipe out that cam and lifters in minutes. Especially with the quality of crap components we have these days.

Reminds me of the over the transom chrome Bassett headers I had on my 455 Olds jet boat. That old turd went 80 via gps with a warmed over 9.5:1 compression short block and box stock edelbrock aluminum heads, single plane and barry grand modded 850 annular booster carb. (Same engine went on hot rod power tour and went 11.80 in my 1970 442). Baffles in the header collectors? Took em out. All the fisherman under the bridge on belleville lake just shook their heads as I idled under the bridge in no wake zone...sounded Real Good!
