I love the fact that Linux was a sunk-cost success for you. I waited until Linux could do everything I needed it to do ready-made, but when Windows 7 finally died for me, I made the switch. What I've found is a wonderful world without all the headaches of Microsoft.

Started with Caldera as well, i think it was 2.6.3, back in 2000. Fell in love with it, but could not do much with it, because i had no Internet back than... Got it from a Linux Magazine, installable from a CD... Forward 5 years, my beloved Windows 2000 died with a BSOD and that was the final push i needed to switch to Linux, never looked back. Kubuntu 5.04 was my choice back than and i loved it. Today i use Vanilla Arch, still use KDE, i never really got to like Gnome...

Pfft. Distro? My first Linux system was fourteen 3.5" disks, then roll your own. 😀 Long hours, and lots of beer..

I remember those days. I did that once and then went to CompUSA and purchased Caldera Open Linux 1.0.

My partner uses it for stream but he said you can't use it to play some games as you need anti cheat stuff. I asked him about wine but it doesn't work for some games so what is he missing

Tell your partner to check into Proton for Steam.

@@jackwallen nah, their partner is right. many, many games that use anti-cheat software do not work on linux, regardless of proton compatibility.

@@LSSTmusic thanks for that info. This is a kernel issue, isn't it?

@@jackwallen I'm not certain. I'm not the most experienced with the lower level stuff so you'd almost definitely know more than me on that front.

I never got into those types of games, they always just annoyed me. Online shooters, COD, games like that. I tried to get into them during my console days, I just can't do it. My 4tb Steam library (Alien Isolation, Doom 2016, Oblivion, all Final Fantasy games, Sim City, Tomb Raider, Minecraft, indie titles, so on and so forth) runs great in Mint. People could have Linux for their PC gaming, and PS5 or Xbox for their anti-cheat games (just to avoid Windows 11 nonsense, stealing data, forcing cloud usage after forced updates, I trust Sony more than Microsoft and I don't trust Sony).
