Spectrasonics, you held onto this for 7 years? How many more gems do you have stored in the backroom? Also, this marketing strategy is stellar; you should consider bringing artists together to make a full-blown Keyscape album.

Nope! From the same session, but this performance has never been aired before today actually! When we invite artists they usually play for hours and there are all sorts of amazing moments! We released Jacob’s legendary C7 grand piano improv shortly after the original session, but we thought it would be fun to show his reaction to the Upright now 😊

This upright reminds me of the one I grew up with, and wished I had with me wherever I lived. Over the years, I have watched literally all the Keyscape Sessions, and finally bought KS last week. There are many very special performances among the series, (Jacob, Shaun Martin and of course, the incomparable Corey Henry; must be a Snarky Puppy thing!). I'm primarily a drummer, in fact, but piano and was the first musical instrument around the house when I grew up and I feel connected to piano and keys. This should be quite a fascinating journey.

I have been a professional musician for over 43 years. Started on a Hammond B3 and then moved to a Mk1 Fender Rhodes with a Juno 60 on top . Over the years I have had dozens of digital pianos from most of the leading brands. I am as fussy about the sound as I am in the correct chords being played in song. It is clear the VST sounds are on another level compared to even £3000+ digital pianos I have owned. What I do not understand is why there is not a stand alone ' Box" with just 1 midi input. Very simple and ideally just a few buttons and a small screen to choose each sound loaded for live gigs. I have no desire to start trying to take a computer with all its issues and fragile build quality on stage. My everyday computer is a Macbook pro. Probably the strongest and most stable computer available but this is still not in the same class for durability as my K2500 Rack mount that has been on thousands of gigs literally all around the world and never being a problem. I am not looking for something inexpensive . For the right bit of kit there is almost no budget within reason? Its 2024 and we have huge libraries of sounds on offer from several companies . I cant understand why no one has realised there are probably many people like me who want to gig these amazing sounds LIVE ON STAGE !! Shame.

Are you guys cooking something new? I've always been interested in orchestral, while omnisphere has some. It isn't as expressive. I really loved what you guys did with Keyscape. There was so many options and the nuances and expression was something else. I am looking at spitfire, but they are very expensive options for what you get. I've always thought, that Spectrasonics gives value for your money. Looking forward to what you are cooking next.

This is the same version of the Wing Upright that is present in every copy of Keyscape. But, there are a few things to consider that affect the final sound you get! One thing is the velocity curve setting in Keyscape. Since all MIDI controllers output velocity differently, it’s important to select the appropriate velocity curve preset for your controller, or adjust the velocity curve parameters manually to your own personal touch and preference. Every sound in Keyscape is also very tweakable, so we always select the patch variations and adjust the settings to optimize the sonic result for each artist’s performance. We encourage you to experiment with all of the settings in the sound you choose to find the best result for your music! Hope this helps! 🙂

Keyscape runs on a PC or Mac computer, either as a standalone application or a plugin within DAW software. You can then play Keyscape as an instrument by using a MIDI keyboard attached via USB to the same computer. In this video, Jacob is using a Roland A-88 keyboard to play the Keyscape software that is running on a MacBook Pro. If you have any other questions about how to get started with Keyscape, feel free to contact us at info@spectrasonics.net and we'll be glad to help! 🙂

@@Capt-Levi What I think he was doing was mixing both Shaun Martin's "The Yellow Jacket" and Pat Metheny/Lyle Mays "James." Certainly the chord progression is rooted in "James" written as a tribute to James Taylor on the PMG "Offramp" album. While "The Yellow Jacket" is very much based on Russell Ferrante's (Yellowjackets band) harmonic approach. Very cool way of blending those.

The only thing I dislike about this particular sampled piano is the noise on the upper keys.. sounds like some sticky tape rattling around on the hammers or something else being loose. I know it gives character but it gets annoying real fast. Wish there was a way to disable the particularly noisy samples and have a few clean round robins. Another thing I wish Keyscape had was keyboard tracked midi velocity curve. For this piano, you can get a very nice mellow sound by forcing the lower range of the velocity curve but unfortunately the low keys then get way too soft. So ideally I'd like to be able to scale the velocity curve according to keyboard tracking +/- 200% scale or something like that.. then you could have the really soft notes at top and enable harder velocity hits on the bottom keys.

@@SpectrasonicsVIDEO Oh I have several. My main go-to is my trusty refurbished K2500X and my backup/alternative is a Roland FP-30x.. and many synths too of course. My point is, it's not my keyboard that is in question here. :) I just like the soft velocities of that particular piano, a lot.. but mainly for the higher notes whereas I would like to have the higher velocity samples for the lower octaves (from around C3 downwards) as they get so incredibly soft without any attack at the low velocities. Of course I can adjust this with my playing or editing manually the MIDI score but it would be nice to be able to precisely "force" a range of velocities over the whole keyboard range instead of just the universal velocity range tool.
