A truly beautiful moment between two incredible musicians, Kiefer and our dear friend Abraham Laboriel Sr.
For this exclusive event in Downtown LA, we invited pianist Kiefer and his killer band to play a show using an awesome Spectrasonics rig for a live audience!
What Kiefer didn't know is that we had a special surprise guest in store for him... none other than "Bass Legend" Abraham Laboriel Sr., one of his greatest heroes and inspirations. Abraham has a very special relationship with Spectrasonics, since he was one of the original artists on our very first sample library 25 years ago!
What happened next is what you see here...a spontaneous expression and heartfelt communication that reminded us all of the joy and power of music. Moments like these remind us of why we do what we do!
Be Encouraged and Encourage Others! :-)
Kiefer Shackelford: Keyscape Rhodes
Abraham Laboriel Sr.: Bass
Will Logan: Drums
Jonah Levine: Trombone & Omnisphere

What Abe said is really profound. Considering the fact that he is getting older and knowing he won't physically be with us forever, it's almost like Abe is saying he's confident that the art of music is being left in good hands. The torches have been passed, and he's fine moving aside to let the next generation rise and thrive. As a fan of Abe Laboriel Sr., this display of wisdom just shows once again why he is one of the best musicians ever.

I've been in at least 4 performances like these where Abe performs and really gets emotional. Most of them in rooms that fit no more than 20 people. He is not putting on a show, and it gets even more intimate at band rehearsals. It's beautiful. The first one was around 15 years ago. Every time it feels like he is saying good bye and it breaks my heart.

Imagine if instruments were people all made in different shapes and sizes from different places of the world with different backgrounds of how they came to be great in their own right and came together with one common goal. This is how I picture humanity should be. When we as people can sit down and have convesations no matter where we are from and move for the better good of all at the table this world will be better for all. This type of music makes the world go round. Music is colorblind and colorful at the same time. Thank you Spectrasonics for making the world a little bit better. :-)

What struck me the most...With states of emergency/lockdowns/distancing, and unthinkable global loss, you can see, and in this case even feel, how special something we just take for granted is...a simple, heartfelt embrace between two people. I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that the musicians and artists will be the ones that will 're-humanize' the planet once we emerge from this.
