One interesting thing about this tuning is that the minor seventh interval is significantly harder to fret than on a normal guitar in standard tuning, where it's a barre. Maybe that influences the more folk/diatonic/modal sound (less 2-5-1, circle of fourths/fifths) and the preference for vii chords or V chords in first inversion (the minor sixth interval between third and root is easier to fret) for dominant function in the songs he plays on it.

Absolutely astonishing! Some of those runs and some of those vocals, remind me of the late Jeff Buckley…. Guitarists - to approximate this on a 6 string, try downtuning to Eb standard and playing your key of E moveable bar chord shapes on the bottom 4 strings with the top 2 strings ringing open

If people want a 6 string version of this tuning, add a high G for the highest string. Normally his tuning from low to high is D-A-E-A-D. On a normal guitar, it would be D-A-E-A-D-G. Go with a 10 gauge string for the high G, and go for at least a 59 gauge on the low D. The high G never broke on me, and in theory, you might get away with a 9 gauge string for the high G (worth trying). What's cool about this addition is the highest 4 strings have the same letters as standard tuning's lowest 4 strings. They're just an octave higher than normal. A high G absolutely sings.

Try DADEAD. The key to Jacob's tuning is the consecutive fifths that create a 9th interval, similar to cello or violin tuning. This tuning replicates that with a bonus octave.
