Whenever I see a Jacob Lawrence posting, I want to add something to his legacy. When I was an art student at the University of Washington in the Seventies, I had a cranky art teacher who insisted that he knew what was art and what was not. I was convinced. While discussing this with the Dean of the Art School, a man stuck his head through the door and said, "I'll take him on", meaning he agreed to tutor me one-on-one for that quarter. Mr. Lawrence was the most generous, encouraging, inspiring professor of my entire college experience. He was a great artist AND a great teacher.

So much beautiful history that was not in our history books or any books in my school. Thank you for sharing Mr. Jacobs story and art.

So glad that even now, 21 years later, we are able to be given insight into his motivations and style thanks to this recorded interview.

It's so nice to see some visual art from Jacob Lawrence about the African-American Migration. Viewers will love his art works in different museums, like MOMA and even, the Brooklyn Museum. : )

I learned about Lawrence through my humanities class because it played a part in the Harlem Renaissance. So amazing to see how he was able to make a stamp in history through is thought provoking art pieces.
