Actually the other contestants were very supportive and protective of him, him being the youngest by far. Terry Lin (guy with glasses ) an amazing singer from Taiwan kind of adopted him as a son, Dimash calling him Lin Papa, they developed such a sweet respectful friendship. When Dimash got ill and lost his voice (song Daybreak) another contestant brought him an old Chinese medicine (his translator explained it being more expensive than gold). They gave him the nickname "imported little brother" during the show.

@@kayhawkins5925 Hiya, Kay! I think you might've gotten a little mixed up. There is an interview with a Kazakh magazine where he says this intentional drugging was from SLAVIC BAZAAR 2015 when he was a competitor (not even when he returned as a guest in 2018). This deplorable sabotage occurred just before he had to go on and perform SOS where, even then, there were rumblings when he finished that he was not his normal smiling self after performing and instead appeared awkward and somber. He wasn't "just" sick, but VERY sick. However with true professionalism he somehow managed to keep to the adage the show must go on. It was not from his appearance in The Singer, either in 2017 or even in 2018 but from from several years earlier. And, in true Dimash fashion of class, thoughtfulness, and intelligence, he was later quoted as saying, "This could have led to some international conflicts. That's why we didn't tell anyone." Luckily all the competitors in The Singer 2017 very much liked him......although that's not to say that at the same time they weren't thinking--(I'll clean it up here)--"Oh POOP!!!" I can no longer think of any of his performances there without remembering all the dropped jaws and head shaking going on backstage. Hahahaha!! I liked and admired his energy and the fun he had while performing. And he is really good in stimulating the audience, to encourage them to stand up, clap their hands and forget about potential shyness. In his concerts he does it almost to perfection. A real entertainer, who puts some life into everybody. And I like his little high screams here and there inbetween the chorus. And his cute smile after the last note showed the fun he had himself. He made me really cheerful and made me dancing...so, my thumbs up for him. Maybe the shoes didn't work well for dancing ...not slippery enough. And the sleeveless sweater was way too big...😆...not the best choice as we could see during the performance, when he was taking his arm out of it. The one person who said at the end , "the cutest thing is, that his whole body is in the sweater "...he nailed it. Thank you for your genuine and open-minded reaction. Greetings from Germany.

I think most Dimash Dears would agree that this isn't one of his best efforts but it was fun watching you react to it nevertheless, Jacob! Dimash is going to need the help of his fans this coming Friday (and every Friday) in order to help him retain the #1 position in requests that he gained for the first time on the March 12 MTV youtube channel Friday Livestream program when he replaced the act that had been holding that position for over six months!. All it takes is tuning in live when the program airs in one's time zone (5-8 pm on Fridays, New York time) and typing REQUEST DIMASH (no extra text or emojis) as many times as possible in the chat during the three hours of the program. Our votes succeeded in helping Dimash replace the act that had held the #1 position for six months! He deserves to be at the top and we need to keep him there! It's Dimash's hopes and dreams to become as successful in the western world as he is in his own country. This is an important and easy way we can give back to him some of all that he has given to us! Let's not let him down.

Even if the arrangement of this song might not be the best to bring out ALL that he has mastered VOCALLY, in my opinion it still is a good example of his showmanship, his energy, and his ability to connect to an audience, getting them fired up. Everyone has different preferences...and that's OKAY. And the way I look at it is that what someone else might consider the "worst" of Dimash (IS there actually such a thing, really???) for me is still 98% better than anyone else. Thanks for another great reaction, Jacob--it demonstrates how EVERYTHING can be used for discussion and learning as you've just shown us here.

It’s not a bad choice, in fact it’s pretty good one. It shows he is not afraid to cover American modern pop style. Despite his voice more suitable for rock pop than the repetitive funk pop, he still makes the audience dance and sing along. Not sure if you watched his digital concert, but the current Dimash killed it with his original modern pop English song ‘Be With Me’.

This is the first time I'd seen this particular song - one of his degrees is in pop music, which kind of surprises some people since he's also classically trained. I know you're going through the "Singer" episodes and that's cool, but you'll have fun with the Tokyo Jazz festival version of Samaltau and the Idol Hits live performance of Screaming - a pop song of his own.

Another out of the box performance is a duet with (Chinese) American rapper Victor Ma on Michael Jackson's Earthsong. What does it do for your confidence going into a competition with Dimash as your backup singer? LOL

Thanks for the analysis 👍. I think it's great that you decided to watch this despite some comments not to. Most of the Dears were introduced to Dimash by his more serious side 🤭, and a more classical style of singing perhaps? That's why a lot don't like this performance. It's not my favourite either, but I love watching the energy. And yeah, for the layperson, what he did may not seem much, but as you said, it was still impressive vocally. Love it that this performance shows how versatile Dimash is. Nope, don't expect just a heavy-emotional ballad from this young man. He can do many other things too and continues to learn to do it all better. And he's so open-minded to many types of genre. What a great artist 👍

It was one of the interpretations that I loved, we are used to listening to a Dimash with great vocal displays, super high tones, melodic tones that make you cry, beautiful songs, but in this song he shows another facet of his interpretation, he shows us who is also capable of interpreting this type of lively, happy, funny, dancing and enjoying songs ...... And he does it very well !!! With an English that at that stage was not yet the best in its pronunciation, but that has been improving significantly. The Singer is not a talent show, it is a popularity show, maybe that's why it wasn't one of his best songs. The other artists behind the scenes are all famous and important in China, the unknown guest was Dimash so to speak, who was just starting to become famous outside of Kazakhstan.

I never liked the original song much but I actually really liked dimash's version a lot!

i know you're more about the timeline, but dimash dances really well. he has a MJ tribute and dances in a song he wrote based off of mj called "give me your love" and the concert performances in new york are really good.

I think Dimash just wasn't ready for this type of song. I suspect that, should he do it now, it would blow us away like all his other performances do.

I’d be interested to hear him do it now!

I actually think it's a shame that he got so few points for it back then. I mean he rocks the place quite well. Everyone is dancing and having fun. What more do you want.

Hello Jacob, the lady you said you thought was cool is Teresa Carpio. She is of Chinese descent but lives in Toronto, Canada. She is an amazing singer (you have to be to be invited to “The Singer”; you should listen to some of her performances in the Singer 2017! Thanks for reacting to Dimash!

Omg thank you!!! I was wanting to look her up! I’m obsessed with her!!

En The Singer, esta presentación no fue de las mejores, pero fue la más alegre e hizo bailar a todo el mundo. Reacciona a Screaming en Idol Hits. Saludos desde Chile.

I watched a video somewhere of him going back to his school to see his teacher and other classmates, and they sang an impromptu performance of this song, so it seems like it might have been a favorite with him and his peers. Not surprising at all to see him choose it. For me personally, it's a Bruno song and I haven't liked any cover I've heard, even from Dimash, although I adore him otherwise. I don't like his performance of the song, but love watching him have fun with it.

Thoroughly enjoyed this. It brought back my night club days with a large pack of girlfriends in search of dance partners. He did a very good job.

This song is more about the rhythm than the voice. He can’t really show off his vocal abilities. It was fun to watch though.
