@@yasminerivera9151 this comment doesn't belong. First, it's well known Kissinger works well within the establishment in general, R and D. Biden would be included in that, we know. But I would still not compare D and R and say they're the same. Just look at the upcoming crop of these two parties. Which one is more likely to stay the course set by neolib and neocon politicians? I think a lot of people voted for Biden to just get rid of Trump. Nothing wrong with that, though. It's not worth discussing because while the new gen D might have used Biden as a placeholder, we want something different, while the new gen R, I believe wants more of what Kissinger did. Can you tell me I'm wrong? We're just not there yet. We keep trying and end up with Obama and Biden. While I believe new gen R got what they thought would be "something different", they got their Bernie Sanders in Trump. If you compare Bernie Sanders and Trump, are they the same? That's what you're saying when you say there's no difference. No difference in what the aim and goal is. And that is very incorrect.

@@mattkwest468 Hitchens was (and became more so) an interventionist when it came to what he called "Islamofascism". He was at odds with Noam Chomsky and most of the left for instance over intervention in Bosnia. And frankly it's hard to disagree with the notion that allowing genocide to occur when you have the power to prevent it is an inherently imoral act. We all know how Hitchens felt about religion and the brutal effects it has on societies. Sadly I think that this may have allowed him to self justify supporting actions by the West that he would condemn in others (as being a lesser of two evils, for instance in the case of Abu Ghraib). In the end I think we just saw the frailty of human nature - his horror at the attack on his adopted nation in 9/11, combined with his deep understanding of the political and religious issues involved lead him to support the actions of a group of people (Bush et al) that in no way reflected his actual values. You could say that in the case of Hitchens and 9/11 the terrorists won - as they did with almost all of America. The attack caused the nation to lose its collective mind and engage in multiple wars that are to this day feeding the very thing they claimed to be fighting. It's really hard to keep personal feelings and fear - our baggage - out of our decision making. I think Hitchens demonstrates that even the best of us can be corrupted by them given the right circumstances.

If you touch your screen, you can hit the CC button at the top right, then touch the three dots on the right hand corner, to adjust the playback speed. It comes up in the drop-down menu. Once you select that, it will give you several different options starting with 1.25 on up. I am very glad that Noam Chomsky ended that answer with a positive. It is a small, tiny positive, but a positive nonetheless. I'm just floored at how disgustingly, how mercilessly my country's leaders have treated other peoples throughout its history. Even if you overlook the genocide of Native Americans, the shit we've done since WW2 is unthinkable (and even if you overlook the stuff we've done since WW2, everything before it and the USA's genocidal campaign against the Native Americans is also about as evil as you can get). The battle was fought by the Holy Roman Empire led by the Habsburg Monarchy and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, both under the command of King John III Sobieski, against the Ottomans and their vassal and tributary states. The battle marked the first time the Commonwealth and the Holy Roman Empire had cooperated militarily against the Ottomans, and it is often seen as a turning point in history, after which "the Ottoman Turks ceased to be a menace to the Christian world".

I think a lot more people have been educating themselves using outsourced media. The young turks had hit major steam early in youtube but they ran off the tracks similar to "the major" news stations. I'd be glad to see more independent journalism from critically perceptive individuals rather than the mass manipulation tactics of others.

Agreed. I'm not an antivaxer and I have had the MRNA vaccines and am fine. But the hatred of the unvaccinated by Chomsky and other liberals and leftists has bee utterly shocking to me. Chomsky's analogy of the unvaccinated being like those who ignore traffic rules is shamefully stupid.

In these interview scenarios there is a time constrain with the air time. The person asking the queation turns a question into several paragraphs, until it became a whole chapter. A large chunk of interview time was wasted. The interviewer knew that Noam was the guest. In preparation for the segment a list of questions succintly stating the essence of what was to be asked should have been prepared. As he said we don't have time to go into the details, he could have had the time.

I didnt link the 93 bombing as part of any a personal attack on the USA. I also hadnt clicked, that the twin towers were part of "Wall Street!" The ramfications of the War on Terror was set in motion a long time ago...and has changed international travel and safety. So many innocent people have died, from all sides.. Collateral Damage RIP

Stating example of Shakeel Afridi as one of the example for failure of vaccination program in Pakistan is the result of having a superficial knowledge of the situation and a country. Resistance to vaccination in tribal regions of Pakistan dates back to British rule. One reason Pakistan is one country which still has polio cases in abundance whereas it has been eradicated from almost the whole of the world.

@UCMDjAJ_3G-CwWXTYaJFUxmQ Wowww, you met him in Ravello!!!??? I'm so jealous! I've been down the coast a few times starting when I was a teenager, and knew exactly where the house is, but never had the luck to run into him. I saw him here in New York a few times at speaking events, and shook his hand, but of course always hoped for more engagement. And, yes, I'm not surprised that he might have been rude; he certainly had that bearing about him, esp as he aged and lost his partner, along with most ppl he seemed to care about. I felt bad for him from afar, bc even though he'd gotten so much, he'd given a lot too, and I think he felt that what he'd given just didn't seem to matter. But thanks for responding; I'm glad your experience of him didn't turn you off to the amazingly important writer and thinker that he is. Salute!

@@ODC88888 Thank you very much, writing like that was an incredibly sweet thing to do for someone you don't even know, but I really appreciate the story you had to tell. Not that it's any consolation, nor should it be, but my guess is the reason he asked you the question about her last words to you is that, as a writer, he was looking for material. As in, maybe he would hear something interesting to him that he could use for a scene in a book. Of course, that's no excuse, but even great writers who might usually be quite admirable people have, shall we say, odd tendencies. Thanks so much for sharing that encounter with me, though; I hope all is well, and remains well, with you!
