Thanks for taking us along on your Florida working vacation. It was great fun to see your dad there with you. I was surprised at the end that you and your dad tasted the Old Bay seasoned lobster first. To me, once I’ve tasted the seasoned one, the I unseasoned would pale in comparison seeming to then need seasoning. I’d not have a good sense of the bare lobster flavor to compare. Anyways - it looks like y’all had bunches of fun on what we’d call a ‘busman’s holiday’. Cheers!

This is what my grandfather did, he was a spiny lobster fisherman and his boat was docked on Stock Island. Every summer, from age 13-17, I was baiting, scrubbing, and pulling traps. Wooden traps (like in your video), not wire, and no one would believe how crusty they can get after a season. It's crazy. Edit: I would give almost anything to work one more season with my abuelo; pulling traps, drinking Ironbeer, and eating Cuban Mix sandwiches, all while cutting up and having a good time. Man, I loved it so much.

My dad and I ran 800 lobster , 300 crab traps for years and then handlined in the off season and dove for tropical fish and salvage never a dull moment for a fisherman in the Keys. There was money to make and even more to spend we moved away in the late 70s . There’s more way to cook Florida lobster than Buba Gump shrimp all of them good. Back then you could spot a old crabber because he was missing a finger or two we used sardines cans punched with a ice pick the crabs would crush them down like a steam roller had ran over them. Great video thanks for bringing back memories.

Good to learn that the stone crab claws are what to try in Florida! Great video, and enjoyed seeing another lobster fisherman. I'm a little sad they don't allow the smaller lobsters free from the trap. It'd be cool if they freed all but two, that might be sufficient to keep as bait, for sustainability
@darthbee18
@darthbee18 8 ай бұрын
I was shocked when you two just plucked the claws and threw the crab back into the water 😳😳, but after hearing Jesse's explanation I was relieved (so that's the way for sustainable stone crab fishing! 👀👀). I have yet to eat a Maine lobster 😔, though I've eaten spiny lobsters a few times (and yeah, they are not too shabby! 😂😺). I like them best with sweet spicy sauce, it's just ✨awesome✨. I love both crab and lobster, though at where I am now crab is a bit more affordable than lobster...

Okay… you have to help out us non-fishing, non-seafood loving people here. What? and where from is PNW? Snow crab? “Unmentionable?” I’m guessing rock crab is what we just saw, yes? But no idea of Krusty Krab (although I’ve definitely dated some!)… and then the final “dungie”… is that another one or is that back to the first PNW one? Just a side note…. So I’m from New Brunswick, Canada (just north of Maine), and we’ve got some awesome lobster there that goes worldwide (unfairly to Maine in some ways that none of us are happy about… well maybe some lobster fishers in Atlantic Canada are, but overall we’d like Canada to adopt some Maine rules and make us all working for the same sustainability goal, but that’s another story). I was brought up where lobster was a “forced” meal for us kids… I am okay with it now, but still NOT a huge fan and that’s why I’m limited in my crab knowledge. I tried Alaskan king, wasn’t fond of it and have avoided crab altogether. Now in my 50’s… I’ve opened up and want to try some alternative crab (& Caribbean lobster). This is why I’m asking about the crab names you’ve used… never heard of most of them. I’d say I know about Chesapeake crab (blue I think?), of course Alaskan king and I think Deadliest Catch showed another crab they went after when king was out of season… big can’t remember the name. Long comment. But you seemed like the right one to ask after all those you listed! 🤣😜 Thanks in advance! 👍🏼☮️

@@ricktaylor14001 PNW = Pacific Northwest. It's a blanket name for Oregon, Washington, and most of BC. I do have to agree, the dungeness (aka dungie) is delicious. Lots of meat, good sweetness, and just overall tasty.

Now you're in my neck of the woods! In Tampa now, but spent 20 years down there with my flat boat and sailboat. Lots of lobster. And I lived next to Joe's Stone Crab for a lot of those years. Good to see you guys on the home turf

Sailors often tattoo pigs and roosters for GOOD luck. Back in the day they transported those animals in crates, when the ships shanks the crates would float and give the sailors something to float on.

Love how Jesse foreshowed the stone claw being the real highlight. His reaction to wanting to keep the lobster was pretty funny as well 😅

I’m used to northern lobster 🦞 and first time I ate lobster in Mexico, it wasn’t my favourite to be polite. I’ve tried three different times and it was… totally different. But I had a giant crab and it was fantastic. I love that fishing game. You guys make my day every time. As a person who’s health has taken an unexpected 180 I have to live my life vicariously through channels like yours. Thanks for taking me to Florida. I did love the crab down there. I miss traveling.

Great video!! So good to see a new video. I’ve missed seeing them. Your dad is adorable!! I was proud of him getting on the boat. His accent is great!! It amazes me how different the lobsters look in Florida and Maine. It makes me want to get some seafood. Unfortunately I’m in Ohio, so I have to buy frozen. 💛
