Four Evans sing For Forever is amazing, too. It's four other actors who've played Evan singing an acoustic version. Very cool.

Honestly For Forever became one of the more devastating songs for me with context. Hearing it and seeing how this song unfolds in the show are two completely different emotions.

BRUH Listening before knowing the context is such a sweet experience And then AFTER After you know And you realize And you listen to it again It’s so bitter and sad and just UGH But I love that duality even still Never had a song hit me like that in such a way so it’s maybe my favorite song ever tbh

The show is orchestrated for a band of eight, including the music director. The parts are: MD/Keyboard; Violin; Viola; Violoncello; Guitar 1; Guitar 2; Bass Guitar/Upright Bass; and Drums. The show was orchestrated by Alex Lacamoire, who won the 2017 Tony Award for Best Orchestrations for his work.

I have to hand it to you Jacob, you got great ears to listen to the background instruments on top of hearing Ben Platt’s vocals. I can appreciate great instruments working to elevate the vocalist’s interpretation of the song’s meaning and they work cohesively for a really great listening experience!

hello! theatre nerd who used to be obsessed with this show here - in this song, evan (the character singing) is telling a made-up story about a friendship with someone he didn’t know. he’s essentially lying during the whole song but keeps going with the lie because it makes him feel a little less alone. i wanted to point this out because you commented about the interesting rhyme scheme. i think the rhyme scheme is structured in this way to show evan’s hesitation between lines - for example, the hesitation of coming up with the next lie and/or the hesitation of wondering if he should keep going with this story - before building up into a steadier rhythm as he falls deeper into his own lies.

Thanks for doing this! I'm a big fan of the musical, and have watched a bunch of vocal coaches talking about this and other songs. But yours is the first video I've seen that goes into the mix of instruments and the technique and the musicality. I'm an amateur pianist, so I really appreciate listening to an expert talk about that stuff (and sometimes I think I actually understand what you are saying).

Love Dear Evan Hansen! This song is wonderful and, I agree, tells a story beautifully. Ben Platt is a great favorite of mine and I can't wait to hear more.

Pasek and Paul write incredible songs! Add in Alex Lacamoire's orchestrations and it's pure genius. (And then you watch the play and get all the heartbreaking context ...)

It's such a sad, sad, song. All the stuff he's talking about he is making it up on the spot. It just shows how utterly lonely he is.

You should react to "In the Heights - The First 8 Minutes," It's the first song of the full film production. The visuals add a lot to the storyline

Fun fact (even though not necessarily fun) but he actually breaks his arm from a failed suicide attempt but pretend he breaks it by climbing a tree. Hopefully not an upsetting spoiler but if so sorry 😅

You should react to Hanson. They had a song come out Friday called "Don't Ever Change" and it features Rick Nielsen from Cheap Trick. It's an amazing song.

Question: Will you be listening to both soundtracks? Because the original is always better, even if I'm sure the remake is great too, I haven't really bothered to listen to it because I'm too attached to the old voices and I've heard from everyone that the movie itself was trash, so I hope you do both because you wouldn't want to miss out on the amazing original soundtrack 👍💙
