JACOBS-BOND: "A Perfect Day"

Carrie Jacobs-Bond (1862-1946) was an American singer, pianist, and prolific composer of songs. Her three most famous titles were “I Love You Truly” from 1901 (the first song by a female composer to sell a million copies), “Just Awearyin’ for You” also from 1901, and “A Perfect Day” from 1910. Jacobs-Bond wrote lyrics and music, drew the artwork for her sheet music covers, and owned her own publishing company in Chicago. “A Perfect Day” is typical of her sentimental songs, but is unusual for specifying a ‘cello obligato. Performed here by Kevin Baum, accompanied by Michael Hendron on reed organ (a chapel-model Mason & Hamlin built in 1915), and Andrés Vera on ‘cello. We had huge fun making music together on 22 June 2018.
