My leaves seem to always just turn black really, still have a lot of green leaves and new growth but some of the older, larger leaves are mostly black and it’s not due to new plants propagating. What’s going on with it? I fertilise and have decent lighting

.i have some java ferns here. They were going good, giving birth to plantlets and etc. But suddenly, they got black. Leaves got rotten. If i act quickly, i can romove the rotten leaves and new ones grows. If i take time to act, i lose the plant. My questions are: how to avoid this? Java fern does not support heat? Or doesnt support strong lights (my light is not so strong)? Lacks of nutrients? Long photoperiods? How to avoid the so called java fern disease ? i read about on the internet but ppl say its lacks of nitrogen or lacks of potassium, but i dont see a real reason about it. I divided the tank in two zones: light zone and shadow zone (just indirect light), the ferns are on the shadow zone and yes the plant is not rottening anymore, but is not giving many plantlets as before..

@rosschristianramirez48846 жыл бұрын
Hey Jacob. Ever dealt with Java Fern melt? Not much info about it is seen in the internet but a few hobbyists have been facing this problem. The leaves progressively turn into brown from the rhizome until the the whole leaf is semi-transparent brown and dead.
@saifullahsufri89046 жыл бұрын
Hi Jacob, I recently bought some small Trident java fern as said by the seller. But when I got it in my hand I realised the leaves are not lobed at all (looks like mini java fern), well I only saw one leaf with only 1 lobe (2 leaves on 1 strand). So i got back to the seller which they explained that mine is immature and not yet lobed, so do you think they are right? or am i just being scammed?

I read that when you first set up a planted aquarium its a good idea to drain the tank and let the roots grow with a low water line to stop the plant from floating, is this a good idea?

My Java Fern doesn't grow tall, it's only 1 inches. How can I make it grow taller? Should I use some root tabs? Should I use Flourish liquid iron, I don't have the Flourish potassium. Is it potassium defiencient? I also have an Anubias plant, and some of the leaves are yellow on the tips, and others have a dark green looking algea - although, it is just two or three of the leaves. I have a 15 gallon tank with three Pristella tetra a bristlenosepleco and lots of ramsnails. I also get black spots on my Java Fern leaves some of the leaves have come off on the edges. I do get lots of baby java ferns flooding around. How do I make these plants grow? Thanks for any advice you have.

Tie it on a pebble or driftwood the roots are not supposed to be buried cos they'll die.

Also, if your going to try leaving it long enough to latch onto the substrate - you have to bury the roots, but leave the rhizomes above the soil-surface - like planting german iris.
