if i keep young amazon sword in 3 gal tank (12x8x8") , will the amazon sword grow big and outgrow my tank? is it possible to keep them small and short?
@MrJacobCastro2 жыл бұрын
You can try by breaking off leaves once they get too big for your tank. But yes, Amazon swords naturally do grow very big and can definitely outgrow the tank size you mentioned. That goes for most sword plants. I typically recommend them for tanks upwards of 50 to 100 gallons or more. Thanks for watching!

My amazon sword is doing great along with all the other plants that are in my 55 gallon aquarium. My question is I have another type of sword plant that I cannot identify? It looks very similar to the amazon but its leaves are very dark. Like a almost coco look to them. Its very healthy and the co2 injection actually made the leaves darken when I started using it in the tank. It has become my favorite plant but I cannot find its name. I bought it from a local fish store but even they cannot help me. Any idea what it could be?

Mine is like three years old and has propagated twice in its life. It was my first plant as an absolute beginner. My platys breed a lot and I suspect that might be how the plant gets its nutrients. I have it in a 10 gallon with pure gravel. Last year I redid the tank and added substrate and it is doing better but the difference isn't that noticeable. In such a small tank, yes it takes up a ton of real estate lol

jacob what the cause of root rot for Amazon sword ? i got a 55 gallon tank with 165 wats cfl using reflection !!!
@MrJacobCastro8 жыл бұрын
Root rot typically happens when plants are malnourished or aren't getting enough light to complete photosynthesis. I'm not familiar with CFL lighting but if we're talking about typical store bought CFL lights for homes or lamps, I don't think those will work too well. But as I said. I've never used them. Another issue could be the health of your tank. Remember to keep up with water changes and siphoning out dead plant matter and other debris that may collect in your tank. Thanks for watching my friend.
