Depends on the country. I don't remember which one (I thought it was India, but it might be something else) but the price of a single AAA game is like, a months worth of rent or even someone's entire salary over there, because the price is in USD and then it's translated into their currency and is way too expensive. Second emulators are for preservation, consoles have an end of life, CDs are terrible for long term preservation, PS3s are ticking time bombs and eventually we won’t be able to play those games anymore. The ability to take game data off of games you own and playing them on emulators ensures that no matter how far companies go with planned obsolescence we can still preserve these games for the newer generation.

Objection!: People pirate Nintendo games on PC because they can, Nintendo games are not demanding (Seriously, GameCube games are like 1GB a piece) But I think the main reason people pirate games is because of current availability, because yeah, Nintendo doesn’t put them on PC and doesn’t bring them to Switch. Although if you’re willing to dish out $1000 or more for a PC, I don’t think getting a Nintendo Switch for $200-300 is the problem.
@justwolf39376 ай бұрын
Comparing a switch game to a GameCube game is kinda facetious considering there's been 2 consoles and a jump in graphics and scope between now and then, so while yeah a GameCube game may be a gig a switch game can be about 10-40 depending on scope. Also not everyone drops thousands on a PC, I got my laptop for $250 at a pawn shop and that was my big purchase of the year, not everyone can afford to even go to GameStop to look at a switch let alone buy one
@grayson-nerd6 ай бұрын
@@justwolf3937 I’m not trying to bash you, but I disagree with what you say. I do agree with GameCube being an odd comparison, I just emulated them myself because they’re small and easy on my pc. Although I wasn’t really comparing them, it was just, like the Nintendo thing a lot if people pirate, including myself. Nintendo is just easy to emulate usually. Although where I disagree with you is in the size of Switch games. If people are pirating a Nintendo Switch game, it’s gonna be a Nintendo-made game, not a multi-platform, and the absolute largest file size for a Nintendo game on Switch is 16.6GB for Fire Emblem Engage. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is only 6.7GB, Super Mario Odyssey is 5.7GB, Zelda Botw is 13.4GB, Super Mario Maker 2 is 2.8GB, and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury is 2.9GB. A game a lot of people would probably pirate due to availability is Super Mario 3D All-Stars is 4.9GB. All much larger than a GameCube game, but most not even entering your range. You exaggerated a bit, or you didn’t know, which is okay. Although, GameCube and Nintendo Switch are kinda just 1 and 1/2 generations apart, considering the Wii is a slightly buffed GameCube, the Wii U was the only real power jump, and the Switch is a Wii U buffed up a bit to-go. And I understand that not everyone has the money to throw at video games all the time, but any PC that inexpensive I don’t see gaming particularly well anyway. In order to game, you kinda have to throw a lot of money into it, it’s a hobby, unnecessary, but if you can afford a decent gaming PC at all, you can most certainly afford any of the consoles, including PS5, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch. I think it’s odd to pirate a conole that’s currently being supported, because slowly building up my library is fun, and many years down the line the games will be rarer, and you can play them or resell them to other collectors, which is something you can’t do if you pirate the entire generation. Older consoles that have been discontinued such as the GameCube, I support whole-heartedly your pirate-tendencies in terms of those games, they’re way too expensive in many cases, like more expensive than modern games. It’s just dumb. Although I think the reason I am this way is because I enjoy collecting games, the currently supported, the nostalgic, the legendary, and also the other ones to a lesser extent. It’s my hobby, and I spend my money responsibly to pick up a new game every now and then, and while it does spend a fair portion of my spending-money, I think that’s just the price of gaming. But man! $300 for Pokémon SoulSilver? THAT SUCKS! Pirate that all you want. But nothing beats being on a camping trip(one of my few other hobbies I do with my family) and whipping out my Nintendo Switch and playing Mario Kart, and to have the sibling next to me challenge me to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Video games are my childhood, and I carry them forward with me.

As evident by the price being lower than other market options, it isn’t being pushed to the max in terms of power-portably, that’s just the Nintendo Switch. Even so, weak isn’t necessarily bad, you have to look at it from all angles, not just whether it can or can’t run the best version of Hogwart’s Legacy(which I am salty about). I mean, no. They're not incompetent developers, TotK specifically is optimized exquisitely well, it's borderline too demanding for the Switch, and so it does funky stuff to its computer to make it even work. Anyway, the legal department suing people is not the team of creatives who made the game, nor is that team the ones responsible for the Switch's weak specs. They made the game, not the console. Anyway, the reason why most people pirated/emulated this game is because it leaked about a week before the official release, and it would save them $70 to play it illegally. Not because Yuzu runs it better. I know from firsthand experience that TotK on a powerful PC still ran quite poorly through Yuzu. Nintendo's problem is that over 1 million people downloaded TotK when it leaked and another 1 million downloads were attempted. How many of those people never bought the game because it was on emulator or a hacked Switch? Unlike emulating older, out-of-print games, where it's impossible to buy them directly from Nintendo anyway, this is a game that is very much still in the current ecosystem. It actually has substantially hurt the potential sales of this game. Corporate greed is bad but this video's thesis misses the mark a fair amount.

Copying and pasting from a discord chat about this: Should also be noted that Yuzu was legitimately in the wrong here too. Per their admissions in the court case: 1. They used stolen code 2. They locked early access to builds of the emulator behind Patreon (notable because some of these early builds were the first to be compatible with TOTK, which had not released at the time and caused a spike in Patreon donors, leading to direct evidence of profiting from piracy). 3. Some of the early access patches released to their Patreon supporters included bug fixes specifically targeting issues running the at-the-time unreleased TOTK, meaning they were actively aiding the piracy of the game despite claiming they didn't support illegal use of the emulator. Yuzu is wholly and undeniably in the wrong, and they shot themselves in the foot here. All they had to do was not have a Patreon and Nintendo never could have gone after them.

1. It's an emulator. Stolen code is almost entirely necessary at some point. Can't make a program that plays Switch games on pc unless it's doing the same shit as a proper Switch. 2. That's not evidence of directly profiting from piracy, as emulators are not piracy. Certainly, people pirated and they got paid by those pirates, but they themselves were not pirating nor causing it (officially). 3. That's not even related to piracy. That's just making sure their emulator works. They did it for other games and even for Citra. They focused on more popular games because they're more likely to be owned by the majority of people. Even if the Yuzu team admitted to these things, it's pretty obvious they only did so to try and prevent Nintendo from suing them harder.
