Documento eccezionale. Qui il maestro aveva 89 anni, ma era ancora un ragazzino. Che fotografo!

A very nice humbling documentary. I recently saw some of Lartigue's photos at a gallery. Does anyone know the piano music at two minutes in? It is beautiful also.Thank You for the documentary Rob Hooley

7 ' 31 "Quand j'avais fini de travailler " et non "après l'école" comme cela est traduit improprement en anglais. Lartigue était un fils d'une famille fortunée, il avait ses professeurs à domicile.

It's strange that photography seems to have become something very serious in the last few decades, it's more ominous yet the way he words it - like his contemporaries, feels so natural. Painting is indeed more profound yet many go about pretending photography has to be on an equal measure to be counted for as art when it's just a game. C'est un trompe l'oeil

Actually it has become less serious since the iPhone :-)

AcousticSong - Guitar & Co Yes and in reaction the art world is taking it more seriously. Where other photographers already reacted by constructing their images (like Jeff Wall) instead of having aesthetic snapshots (like Nan Goldin), today photography is becoming a science in and of itself. The few photographers that can make a living by simply living an interesting life or having a good eye for composition is diminishing rapidly. If Nan Goldin started out today she would be completely irrelevant whereas Jeff Wall would be just another painter-photographer because of what's fashionable in the art world today. The candid photograph is no longer being appreciated as an art object exactly because everyone knows how to make them nowadays without much consideration. Therefor photography, as an artform, is increasing in difficulty. Having said that, I don't necessarily agree to that. I find snapshots to be the most beautiful way to make photographs, they aren't supposed to be very deep except for the story they are trying to tell ie the reason we push the button. As a photographer I often hand out my camera so that it feels more exciting rather than having some carefully made compositions that bore the fuck out of me. Sadly, that was then and today the art scene is once again full of bourgeois losers that were born without a childhood.

"In those days" photography was for an elite, you couldn't own a camera being poor. Lartigue he had several being not yet an adult. Now it has become extremely democratic and yes as a professional photographer you really must make the difference, technically, have the latest gear, Most photography now is based on technical quality. Maybe being a little bit like Mr Bean on his holiday to St Tropez with his film camera, will bring the fun back? ;-) I"m far from being an experienced photographer, but I'd like the creative and simple-things-of-life-side to dominate in my photography, above always wondering if I need the latest and best gear. Anyway, I haven't got the money to be as good as certain others ;-)

AcousticSong - Guitar & Co It's funny that you bring that up because nowadays pro photographers, the artists so to say, either use state of the art technology OR they use old large format cameras because it is still superior (read: higher resolution) to that state of the art digital photography. And yes it's true that what is trending is driven by technical aspects. That's also why it feels so scientific, it has this quality of describing life on a higher level. I'm on your side tho, I don't hate this kind of photography but it's not my style. I'm very curious to see what people will come up with by using new digital media like iPhones BUT I know for a fact that the art world isn't open to those things. They simply don't consider it to be art because it's not snobbish enough but as we know, the impressionists weren't the snobs' favourites either ;)
