Herzog & de Meuron is a partnership led by five Senior Partners - Jacques Herzog, Pierre de Meuron, Christine Binswanger, Ascan Mergenthaler and Stefan Marbach. Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron established their office in Basel in 1978. The partnership has grown over the years. An international team of about 420 collaborators is working on more than 50 projects across Europe, North and South America and Asia. Herzog & de Meuron are known for designs that are at once highly inventive and sensitive to the site, geography, and cultural context creating projects that are highly specific to their place and program brief, from the small-scale private home to large-scale public and cultural facilities. The practice has been awarded numerous prizes including The Pritzker Architecture Prize (USA) in 2001, the RIBA Royal Gold Medal (UK) and the Praemium Imperiale (Japan), both in 2007. In 2014, Herzog & de Meuron were awarded the Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize (MCHAP) for 1111 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach.

Really well exposed and delicately chosen all the images to explain complex ideas 👍

Aside from the enormous respect I have for Herzog + De Meuron, I love that Jacques Herzog sounds a bit like Werner Herzog.

There are so many great things about this lecture but that a Swiss architect would take time to check whether "furtive" is the correct word for what he is trying to say is exquisitely moving.

that's in a sense very German, i assume his mother tongue is swiss german. when you talking to a german; you will find he constantly searching for the exact right word for the context, that's the language as well as the culture i guess. but yeah totally

I like J.H. a lot as an architect and a speaker. For all the flack he may get as being a "starchitect", the projects themselves are fantastic and have the substance to back up the archi-speak.

the purity and assurance of a classical Palladio style building will be a warning to future generations of the intellectual and emotional desert that is a glass and steel building

That's an interesting opinion. Probably the future will show if Palladio's way of looking to an architecture and to a world would resurrect.
