Today I tried my hand at creating rust effects similar to what the guys on the popular show "Vegas Rat Rods" use to make patina on nicely restored hot rods. I think it turned out pretty good considering it was my first try.

I will admit that I was not expecting you to gloss over the rust, but that would be because I have never heard of rat rods and my only experience with rust is that it is not generally glossy. Then as soon as I saw your picture I understood and thought 'hell yeah!!!'. But regardless of my personal taste and feelings about it, I would never presume to criticise an artist for their choices. Obviously you can do precisely what you choose and I'm just glad I'm here to see the extraordinary things you do and the lengths you go to achieve them.

Final product looks amazing!! The rust effects were quite realistic. Need more “barn find” customizations. Kudos on this one though. I think what really nailed it for me was the choice of the teal color. It goes so well with the warm tones of the rust and it’s so ubiquitous among classic Chevys. 👌👌👌

Damn you for getting me into this hobby. I've been watching your videos and out of nowhere I'm buying Hot Wheels at my supermarket. I bought a Hot rod, 2 days later a Chevy 57 and A VW GTI, and today I drilled out the rivits and spend all day sanding down their bodys. THEY LOOK AWESOME ! When polished those baby's look so shiney, I don't know why all you guys are taking the trouble of painting them ;-) Now I want to put the HotRod engine in the Chevy . . .

Dude - again -- that is SLICK! I would love to see another at this size but with more red rust and wood bedside rails. And another with orange rust but hopped up on a "lift Kit" (Like the pickup truck in the old "Simon and Simon" tv show.) And my favorite of all time is an old Tonka Dodge A100 truck that I would love to see orange rusted and wood bedside rails. Oooh, some challenges for you. Keep it going! I find these restoration videos very satisfying.

Starting up my own channel, I wondered if I’d be able to get away with slipping some of the 1/32 and maybe even some 1/24 and 1/43 in, seems like people are pretty responsive. I absolutely LOVE this build, and although I fall into the matte/semigloss crowd when it comes to patina cars, that just means that “Blue’s Custom Diecast Garage” shop truck and “Jimmy’s Garage” shop truck won’t be twinzies, lol! It’s your channel, do what you love and don’t mind the haters/trolls/speed bumps! 👍
