Jade Puget has spent the last 20 years writing, recording and touring with the band AFI. Originally a hardcore punk band, AFI have since delved into many genres including horror punk, post hardcore, alternative and gothic rock.
Jade recently stopped by the Gibson Showroom in Los Angeles, CA to check out the brand new Les Paul Studio from Gibson’s new “Modern Collection.”
The Les Paul Studio embodies the essential Les Paul features with enhancements for playability and tonal versatility. The rosewood fingerboard and slim taper mahogany neck provide effortless playability and comfort.
The 490R and 498T pickups provide tight, high-output humbucking performance and the two push-pull pots offer additional coil-tapping options.
The Les Paul Studio is now available in four fun finishes: Smokehouse Burst, Tangerine Burst, Wine Red and Ebony.

Very cool band n people even dig the post punk Depeche mode type thing as well whatever they do they do it well, u can't deny ✌

I'm actually rather curious to see what that'd be like. Though for each album/tour, he switches them up. Kind of like having the black one for STS, the white for DECEMBERUNDERGROUND, the gold for Crash Love and the back to black for Burials (With the light ring)... though seeing him on stage, I could almost swear one of the guitars he was playing was a Melody Maker. I'm probably totally wrong and I'll cop to it if I am, though watching him, I had to wonder.

Yess. Everything he said makes perfect sense. I always say, if it's a single guitar player in a hard/rock band, the guitar needs to be a Les Paul. But also how he describes his composition and playing. Love how AFI guitar riffs are so full. Almost never a single string or basic power chord. He's always creating a full sound and trying to fill the space with a single guitar (even though they record multiple guitarsnfor the records) while still having leads and melodic passages. His compositions can be played with a single guitar and still sound full.

I have a '09 les paul studio, and i love it, but in order to make it throughly functional I had to change the original tuners for groover, and the nut from plastic to tusq. Now I see gibson it's doing it from factory, that's great. It's very light but the tone its still huge and worth of a classic les paul. BTW I had this same cherry/wine tone and it looks awesome in stage!

There’s got to be a better way to do a demo. I mean it’s Gibson damn it! He didn’t even show us the coil switches or the split sound. I’ve heard great things about the versatility of the knobs and the different sounds it puts out. Guess I’ll have to go to the website and hopefully find a demo there. PRS does an amazing job with demoing their products. Brian Ewald really knows how to show off a guitar. So tempting to just order one online just from the demo. The hell with Gibson. They think we’ll buy a guitar just cause this guy has one. False.

Roy Martin Well... not never, as was the point of the original poster. 😛 Honestly any binding adds cost to manufacture so this is Gibson making a decision to allow them to strike a sensible balance of price vs quality control (not rushing manufacture being a key element of good QC) by deleting a relatively costly feature which was historically not a part of the Studio anyway.

The colours and aesthetics of the current studio and tribute models are absolutely hideous. The reasoning seems to be... oh you are not rich then you have to get a tacky looking guitar. The rosewood boards at least in the 2018 models feature lower quality wood than any entry level guitar I have seen, certainly worse than an Epiphone. I own a 2005 studio with binding that it’s been built to a much higher standard than current models and has a really nice RW fretboard, binding and it came with a hard case. The price tag for the current studio models does not reflect what you get.
@allstopblue5717
@allstopblue5717 5 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Especially these new studios. It’s the exact same guitar as the Tribute used to be just a couple years ago. Not good value anymore which is what the purpose of the studio was supposed to be in my opinion.
