To be fair, this is NOT what would be called "cookie monster" vocals. You can find those from her on other songs, but this is not it. She is screaming through her natural voice throughout those moments. "Cookie monster" vocals have none of the singer's natural voice. As for Amanda's comment about wishing Cortney would just sing in the clean voice... well, respectfully, this band's artistic decisions are what is blowing this band up in 2023. Also, I will never understand the need to "understand the lyrics" in the modern age. Go look the lyrics up. It's not like we haven't been singing the wrong lyrics to pop songs since the 1950s. We haven't understood lyrics for as long as there have been lyrics to understand.

Agreed. The lyrics are included in the official music video’s notes, too. Courtney always intends her lyrics to be open to any listener’s individual interpretation, but I feel the second (harsh) verse explains why the key doesn’t lead anywhere in the video.

I definitely use “Cookie Monster” vocals to cover the general sound of yelling in songs. She transitions wonderfully and she is very talented. Gorgeous lady with a gorgeous voice.

@@amandaannsharp Yes, and I should add that I’m not criticising your reaction at all, just pointing out where you might be able to pick up at least a partial solution to the lack of closure - I suspect it may be intentional on their part as it looks like the video may lead on to the one for another track (then again, it may not…!) 🤔

Why would you not understand the vocals? She's explaining why she's so jaded about life in general and what's she's experienced how's that hard to understand?
