One of my favorite things about metal is how inclusive of a community it is. If you ever make your way out to a concert you won't see a bunch of strangers, but a family. most of the time.
@ashen_strix8 ай бұрын
How inclusive it is now, yeah. I can remember a time when this would've never been popular. Metal is heading in a great direction.

This is too true. I was just at a concert for I Prevail. Pregnant woman who looked about 3 months along wanted to get into the pit. She was encouraged to get in and then everyone created a circle around her to protect her.

To do "Demon Voice" , many kind of techniques are being used by metal vocalists. (Gutturals, death grunts, growled, low pitched, harsh, vocal fry/fry scream, false chord) With practice it's getting eventually not harder than singing with what we call in the metal scene, a clean voice. That said, in the end of that song, the way Courtney mix her voice, going from clean, to fry, to fals chord is so impressive. I always get instant goosebump & the emotions often brings me some little tears.

I'd love to see a video of y'all attempting harsh vocals! People either think it's super easy or think it's really difficult. Whenever people actually try to do harsh vocals it just adds another layer of appreciation to the genre and the vocalists talent. I've been trying to work on it for almost 10 years and still haven't gotten to where I'd like to be. Even if it doesn't sound perfect it's still a lot of fun to do and let's you embrace these songs even more in my opinion. I love seeing people venture into the genre and community, metal is not always what people think it is on a surface level and metal heads are actually some of the nicest and most inclusive fan bases out there. Seeing live shows of this music is an awesome experience, the people always look out for each other especially in the moshpits and everyone is there to just enjoy the bands and have a great time. There's never really any drama or beef or people trying to fight each other like at some other concerts. Definitely give the vocal thing a shot and keep checking out these bands and their other songs. Looking at the lyrics while listening helps a ton especially for new listeners. 😊

Courtney is really talented. These harsh vocals are not like the "others", beyond the alternation between verses and choruses, her cries are very melodic and they integrate singing within them, few singers in this style do it, she goes undoubtedly create many vocations. Greetings from France.

There are other one takes like this one for the songs "Rule of Nines" and "Holy Roller" (first is like this with some screams, the second is all screams). There is also a six song live in-studio performance with the band from 2020 that was shot for XM's Liquid Metal. And a 3 song performance of The Mara Effect that was also shot live in a studio. But you might like some of the newer songs with all clean vocals like "Too Close/Too Late" and "The Void" and "Ultraviolet."

Formed in 2017, in Victoria BC Canada, by lead singer Courtney LaPlante and her husband, guitarist Mike Stringer, after leaving their former band Iwrestledabearonce. Zev Rose on drums since 2020, Josh Gilbert (ex-As I Lay Dying) joined on bass in 2022, made permanent last year. Heavy metal band using several genres , metalcore alt metal, prog metal, and using electronic elements. 4 EP's and 1 full album to date. This song is from the album, Eternal Blue, released in 2021. Most songs have a mix of clean and harsh, with varying percentages. But a few are all harsh, and a few all clean. Well, anyone can do harsh vocals, but it takes LOTS of practice to do them properly ,so you don't hurt yourself. More to check out: Courtney's vocal one take for Rule of Nines. Constance, Blessed Be, Holy Roller, Rotoscope, Jaded, Cellar Door, and Ultra Violet.

The harsh vocals are using false folds near the vocal cords and don't involve stressing the vocal cords. Tatiana of Jinjer was self-taught. There are instructional videos on KZbin that explain how to do harsh vocals.

The one take of "Circle with me" is not only my favourite clip and song from Spiritbox... but Courtney's intensity to deliver the message. In my understanding of the song ...is about the faith and honour of marriage and the vows of marriage that carry mankind in the image of God, therefore strength of family....but the honour is gone and twisted today into two vultures ( birds of prey) being in sanctimony until it falls apart...then scavenge from each other ( money, property and children's affection and monitory benefits ofhaving children). This is a masterpeice...musically, lyrically and if you listen closely and read closely...the angered demon voice... is anger from God.

Singing is harder by far there is so much technical movement with singing, harsh is more physical, so body position, throat positioning /angle, mouth shape and tongue all have to work together. So singing is very technical and all about the vocal chords, harsh uses vocal chords very little if at all, depends on what type of harsh vocal you want there is a bunch of different types all requiring different parts of you mouth/throat to activate. was in band when I was younger gothic metal band that does both styles, although gothic style harsh vocals have more meat i guess usually lower registers softer almost throaty and sexy Type O Negative sia great example.

Love spiritbox, love "hurt you" but they are so good live if you can try and make a show it's definitely worth it. Rotoscope reminds me of garbage to begin with 😍. Other bands to check out would be VUKOVI vocals are not heavy but the sound they make as whole and the lyrics definitely are any track off their album nula but the track tainted is a good start, pure energy. Another band to check out would be dream state and their track help my self, it's quite sad as the lead singer left for mental health reasons they now have a very solid replacement who has more heavys and fry so it's an interesting listing to both singers as the new stuff is definitely heavier and the old songs are redone a touch heavier live as well.

Jesus christ you do in fact all look the same. It could NOT be more clear that you're family lol. If you have any actual singing experience, it wouldn't be super hard to learn the basics, its the same as any other vocal distortion that people do in... less aggressive genres. It just (typically) has the distortion increased and your actual voice pulled back further. There's a lot of different and more difficult techniques, but most people could do the basics with just a little training.
