I grew up with jade and my grandma used to work at mings jewelry in Hawaii, so growing up it was always the light green and what we called the Omphacite Fei Cui used to be apple jade. I’m so glad that it’s finally made in this manner and now we no longer need to really go off of all those classes. In reality Fei Cui is so powerful that it will really no longer matter the class or type. Wether you sell it or not people will pay the price if they feel that piece has some sort of connection to them. As for me I have always chosen the omphacite Fei Cui because it reminds me of my grandma and it’s culture for me. We shouldn’t be discouraged of the name change and all the changes that comes with it. This is a natural, but most magnificent stone in the world and I’m more excited of the fact to introduce it in this manner and now have more knowledge on why it was so technical for so long and how now it’s finally it’s own whole being which is now Fei Cui.

This have been by far the most informative and detailed discussions about jade! I have always loved Jade, even though we are not Chinese, we have old jade items and jewelry that is from my grandmother. I only recognize real jade based on touch, jade is always cold. Nowadays there are many stimulated jade in the market it is hard to differentiate the originals now. Thank you

Excellent discussion. Thanks, it's the first time that I finally understand "fei cui"! (However I would have loved to still hear something about the different possible colours.)

Yes, I agree. I love all of it, from estate sales or pre-loved, jade imparts a feeling of warm well being that I can’t explain. All colors are gorgeous, how ever it’s the happy apple green mixed with mutton fat design that I currently prefer most…

For my (pathetic in chemistry) own brain, this webinar is beyond educational, because it’s fascinating. Thank you for explaining this with intelligent seriousness the subject demands, but also in a fashion that lay ppl and newbies can comprehend. You’re greatly appreciated!

Thank you for this video. I am a new carve jade. I have always loved the historic jade carvings in museums. More recently, I have become aware of modern carvers and their great work. But this history about jade is so important to me.

As a GG from Michigan USA...I am on board with this as it is very clear and concise that the name Fei Cui is a broader term that allows for the inclusion of all pyroxenes that make up what we have known as "Jadeite". I for one am going to adopt the term and hope to educate others.

I am a consumer and purchased some jade pieces, however it has been difficult to differentiate what was claimed to be this or that. This presentation has helped me to understand the cultural history and discernment of the material.

One question on nephrite and fei cui. If nephrite jade was the main type in the past, why is it now no longer considered premium to own these days. It seems that Burmese jadeite is being pushed heavily in the marketplace and nephrite is being shoved to the corner? Is my perception here in the US off mark or is it marketing and pushing Burmese product?
@keegancogdill78763 жыл бұрын
@@satoamoy I am definitely not an expert - but from what I understand its mainly due to a few factors: Jadeite is more rare than nephrite, which makes it more valuable. Jadeite is a little harder too and so more scratch resistant. Also, Jadeite is not as ancient in Chinese culture but it still goes back hundreds of years. That is enough time to make Jadeite an important part of the culture and history.

Thanks for the discussion. About 1980 I visited Taiwan a few times and came across a store selling carving made of nephrite Jade. I bought some because in 1980 the carvings were pretty reasonably priced. I'm sort of a private collector of semi-precious gemstones. The way I tell Nephrite from Jadeite is with a specific gravity test. Nephrite being slightly less than Jadeite when tested for specific gravity. In hardness they are hard to tell apart. Nephrite Jade is also somewhat translucent in thinner areas of the material, but not as much as Jadeite. (in my collection anyway)I also have a few small items made of Jadeite. I found some green stones in a river in Japan many years ago that I believe to be Jadeite, but very much occluded with some white mineral mixed within. For the longest time I carried one of these stones for luck with mixed results.

I have a question I would like to ask. From the lecture we know that Feicui is a multi crystallized compound. I also heard a theory says that the top cleaity Feicui with cold tone light is mainly sigle crystal. One of my friend told me that the theroy can not be true since Feicui has to be multi crystallized. However, based on my knowledge I believe all of Jadelite, omphacite and Kosmocholor can probability get into single crystal form in Lab. As a result, can we really rule out the posibility of a single crystal form of Feicui, for instance single crystal form of Jadeite jade?

What about nephrite jade? Is is also an aglomerate of different minerals beside nephrite? If not is it than considered more 'pure' than fei cui?

Just wondering how this effects value and could these minute distinctions, when it comes to personal preferences, ultimately be used to manipulate the value & market here in US and across the globe?

How can I provide a sample of a small green translucent stone that I found on a beach in Northern California? A local jewelry store identified the stone as nephrite.
