JAEDONG vs LIGHT Series on Ladder - Starcraft Broodwar

Once thought to be the Terran successor to flash, can he take down his greatest foe? Jaedong is out of his prime but has continued to practice and pursue an ASL title. As someone who only started following BW after Remastered, I always hear about how amazing Jaedong is but I don't think I've ever seen him really deliver

its definitely a difference between remastered and original, JD was better in low res original, his zvt pressure style (also Yellow(arnc), Luxury, Kwanro) is more suited to original BW in low res. T has a harder time dealing with pressure. But also JD is just rusty. His management style Z often failed in big games to be honest.. he often played best in certain situations (fighting from behind in ZvT, winning from ahead in ZvP) his style was like Mini PvZ in the modern age, in that he abused multitasking and mechanics to outmicro in the early game (and muta domination in early to mid game zvt) - his whole game relied on that advantage, and thats why he was top in ZvZ as well. he can't really do that anymore

He's mostly name recognition now. He dominated the scene in the late 2000s and had some famous rivalries against people like Flash. Today, yeah, the other top tier Zs are simply better.

@@infinityesq.4226 we've had 11 years since the end of Kespa. As times goes on others players or new players get their chance to grow to their respective peaks. Jaedong is still one of the best zergs for sure, but the modern meta is extremely multitask demanding. Light arguably also the smartest terran with the best sense for good micro moves.

@@MundaneDave its kinda sad we need the proleague era to be re-cast in remastered so people get better see how good players like jd were, arguably his best games were in PL and especially winners league. it was notable when he lost and the losses tend to be great games rather than the games when jd just rolls over everyone in early/mid game. JD was my favourite player in kespa era so i don't want to seem harsh, but just realistic. im just thankful we have regular BW to watch at all, it was worrying around 2013.. remember when we got to watch PL EVERY DAY plus osl/msl. was great times

@@infinityesq.4226 I try judging these players as objectively as possible, not much fanboying from me. Jaedong is playing a LOT and isn't keeping up in this era. He indeed has to be "having a good day" kinda like Sharp. In contrast to players like Royal or soma who have to be having a bad day. If I go by nostalgia and fanboying I'll say Julyzerg is the GOAT zerg.

Guys don't be so tough on Jaedong. Losing to Light is NO big deal. Light is literlaly top 2 best terrans in the world and has probably the most killer TVZ outside of Flash and maybe Last. Jaedong's weakness in the new era is ZVT, but he is still a top 10 player in the world. He is still the greatest zerg of all time, and dont forget, he has still pulled off some miraculous wins in the modern era. ASL 2 he got 3rd place, he got 1st place in one of the KCM's as far as all kills, and who can forget his KSL 2nd place where he destroyed Rain 4-0? This guy is still the real deal, and although I dont think he will ever win a major title again, he's still a threat to anyone on a good day. Respect the Dong!

Those results were 6-7years ago. Alot of people were still rusty when BW really started to come back and alot of people were absent. While he did good there it was him doing good using his old style and meta, when the modern meta started to settle and everyone got into form/new players emerged he just faded. At one point he was getting eliminated in Ro24, which isnt really a great result.

@@stambe8605 Well he took Flash to game 5 in a best of 5, same flash who won 3 ASL’s at that time. He beat Rain 4-0 at a time when Rain had just won ASL 5. He beat light when light had the best tvz in the world and was #1 on ladder. Also JD was absent himself from SC for years, and even when he came back 2.5 years later he went to military. Now he’s been back for just 2 years. I hit A league a month ago and I only did it by playing every day for months on end. I tried playing few days ago after quitting for a while and got destroyed. Consistency is the key. I hope JD proves this in ASL 16!
