I almost sold my MPCLive2 last month. I was just having a hard time clicking with the machine. I’ve watched a lot of videos and was really frustrated. Your videos have made a big difference. Your attention to the details and keeping the videos relatively short has been really helpful. Great work! Thank you!

your content is incredible. i still hear all these type beats on youtube that seem way louder and bigger than what i can seem to make come out of the mpc - do you think i need to dump the beat into a daw and use any particular mastering plug in to make that happen, or can i do it all this way in the mpc, and is it just learning to mix better?

This is an amazing technique for selling beats. It allows the customer to hear the beat writer’s interpretation of how he feels his work is best represented. However, after working in the hiphop/rap community, since 1989, as a professional tracking/mixing (and currently mastering engineer) this is not the way to deliver a beat to your client. I’m not a fan of giving your individual tracks if you are a polished and accomplished engineer, with the right equipment. This should involve exporting your individual tracks out of your MPC and mixing it with the understand an engineer will be placing a vocal within your work. They do not want to be forced to go in and stem out your beat or do some magic just to fix that sweet spot, that you can’t hear, because of your lack of experience or understanding the fact it’s not just about your beat. It’s about the entire project. Your perfect kick might sound great on your 600$ monitors but it might sound like total crap in a perfectly tuned “Grammy winning” room on 50,000$ monitors. Has the beat maker produced Grammy winners? This isn’t to say that this can’t be done but why play the odds? If you can’t mix hits then send out the individual tracks or take the time to learn where the vocals are going to sit in the mix and attempt to do your magic. The owner of this channel is good at what he does so as an engineer I wouldn’t have an issue taking something from him as long as we have an open line of communication. This is essential when you are talking about an A,B or even a C level delivery. BTW know your worth. Some of you WAY undersell yourself. Get a manager and don’t pay them unless they get you work and only pay them 10-15% of the work they get you. Now, if you are selling beats for 10-30$ this could all change because of who you are selling your product too. However, I would never let crap leave my place just because my pricing is based on my ignorance of the industry or the inability to make good product. Tags: Stop putting them in your beats. People, like me, take them out anyway. Make a great product so the artist will go out of their way to promote you. In the past year I have worked on hundreds of projects and maybe had songs with 4 tags come in. It took me 5 mins to remove them. I do it while my assistant is setting up the session. Leasing: Don’t do it unless you plan on only working with d and e level artist. Professionals do not want to deal with tracking down other versions of your beat. Again, do not play the odds. So… 1. Mix your work if you have the skills and understand where the delivery is headed. 2. Never master anything unless you are providing the 100% final product to your client. 3. Send out the tracks if you do not have the skills or equipment to mix the work. 4. No TAG. 5. No leasing. 6. Get a manager if you have the chops. This channel owner has obviously got some experience and skills so remember that when he offers you advice. I’m not sure if I agree with this particular video but I’m not sure if this beat is going to his demo site or for delivery as I kinda jumped the gun on my reply. Bless all and I pray all of you have the same career I have had in this wonderful business. This has been my “day job” since I was 16 and many of you should take the leap and make it yours. BobS

Btw. I have been using an MPC-60 since 1989 to do my work on. I just sold it in excellent condition and purchased and X-se. absolutely outstanding piece of equipment. You can mix a beat on it, and the newer MPC, with the right experience, and monitor systems/headphones

i respect your opinion but honestly I don't care to have the best quality i rather focus more on the production side and i would advise others to do the same as well because if you don't have the money for actual mastering what you gon stop making music because of that? As someone that use to engineer most of these tutorial that do mastering is really rough mastering which is all you need because for the most part the production side doesn't end with you if your working with artist so mastering at a high level for a beat is unnecessary

worst advice with mpc. mix in the red with a good drumkit. there is a limiter hidden in the MPC on the output. it is activated only when the master is really hot in the red (find a good drumkit that supports a high volume otherwise not worth it) use air ehancer to soften the high notes on the melodies and percussion. my beats come out at -5 lufs with nothing on the master and being at 0 db. if you don't believe me export a loop that exceeds 0db and put it in your daw. Mpc was designed to be in red. Thats why the démo project are in the red
