The Battle of Marj Dābiq ( مرج دابق )was a decisive military engagement in Middle Eastern history, fought on 24 August 1516, near the town of Dabiq, 44 km north of Aleppo (modern Syria).The battle was part of the 1516-17 war between the Ottoman Empire and the Mamluk Sultanate, which ended in an Ottoman victory and conquest of much of the Middle East, bringing about the destruction of the Mamluk Sultanate. The Ottoman victory in this battle gave Selim's armies control of the entire region of Syria and opened the door to the conquest of Egypt.

Nope the Mamluks had just purchased 300 canons and firearms from the Venetians after the defeat of Marj Dabiq, They were inexperienced compared to the much experienced Ottomans.

In his letter to Sultan Tuman-Bay of Egypt, Selim wrote that he intended to become the ruler of the East and of the West, like Alexander the Great. Selim's first two years on the throne were spent in the elimination of all members of the Ottoman dynasty who could advance a claim to the throne. The Mamluks were indirectly supporting the Safavids in their war effort against the Ottomans, This incident pissed off Selim and he saw this as an opportunity to conquer the Mamluk Sultanate .

@@syedasharimam Selim was surely aggressive but you know the Mamluk Sultanate had very resourceful and rich lands under it like Syria and Egypt which made the Ottomans richer and they also got access to the Red Sea through where they could trade with India and venture into the Indian Ocean, And second point was the Mamluks had control over two holy cities of the Muslims Mecca and Medina and gaining them made Selim the Caliph and the Ottoman Empire the Centre of Islam, So Selim just pulled off a pro move by attacking the Mamluks, And ur question about a Muslim Empire attacking another then it had happened on many occasions before Selim did it, For example: Amir Timur or Tamerlane attacking the early Ottoman Empire so just chill it was the sharp presence of mind and brilliancy of Selim in this case.
