Don't forget that the anti seize or pretty much anything you put on the threads will greatly affect tightening torque. I have even destroyed brand new factory bolts once with a torque wrench using anti seize on the threads. Surface finish, paint or other coatings, are a factor for clamping force as well. You won't break bolts but stuff may come loose over time with soft coatings and the torque spec is always given with the coating of the part and the bolts in mind.

Thanks, as always, for another entertaining video. I had poly bushes already fitted on my S2000 and whomever fitted them didn't use enough grease. They made lots of squeezing noises until one day I gave up and removed them and greased them correctly. A lot of work that could have been saved by being less stingy in the first place.
@Jafromobile4 ай бұрын
If I were smart I would have installed grease fittings into all of them. I suppose there's always next time? Really, that's the trick though. Cut a groove around the bushing, drill/tap/put a grease fitting lined up on it. No disassembly required.

@Jafromobile4 ай бұрын
We had it out, and that's what it kept telling me... I guess I can be a little hard headed sometimes? I didn't listen. Sort of... I mean... I was doing exactly what it was telling me to do. EXACTLY. Which I think it should have been grateful enough to work with me on this one. You know... Warn a brotha. I knew the cables had to go on 1st the WHOLE TIME I was putting these brakes together, but they weren't in the drawing?... and I was already miffed because it had me working on parts for the rear... Kinda knocked me off my game. Zero preparation for that stuff and it was a ton of work to put together under pressure. I tried to get out of sandblasting the rotors by explaining they'd just fall off, and it made me do it anyways. Slave-driven! It took 3 days to blast all 4 rotors without melting our air compressor. And then after all that they only got 3 seconds of the video!? I thought this video was going in a totally different direction the whole time, finish the front-end, right? I just rebuilt the rack and everything's here... but the white board didn't tell me what IT had planned. If it had warned me at any point earlier that this was its goal, to pretend to make a fool out of me and create an example that would be remembered... then I never even would have been mad. I'd have totally played along. BUT, it led me right into a trap! The excuse was that it kept me in the dark because it wanted my reaction to be authentic!? I understand that, but making me do all of this out of order when I know better pissed me off bad! It made me have to blast, prep, inventory, oxidize and clean about a hundred things that I was completely content leaving wrapped up until the front end was completed. Ultimately I get it. An authentic reaction is worth it to the guy making videos... Me. And a thing happening wrong with some conflict and then having to get corrected is a whole lot more memorable so... :sigh: yeah, it totally played me the fool. And I guess that my little tantrum might prevent someone else from doing this job twice on both sides? Handling everything... Look I don't even know what I do around here anymore? The whiteboard is clearly smarter than I am. There were traps everywhere in this one! I wouldn't go near that rock washer. No way! I know that trap! Dodged a nasty one! It's 2024, and nobody has less of a sense of humor than AI. I'm glad we all made it out alive!

Ugh those weird angled bushings on the rear knuckles @ 16:28 are indeed a huge pain in the butt! Watching you struggle to press those in and having to hold the part in place by hand nearly kicked off some PTSD from when I did mine a year ago.
@Jafromobile4 ай бұрын
I don't know what Mitsubishi was thinking on that one? It's like they first checked all available ball joint presses out there, just to intentionally design a knuckle that they wouldn't fit. Did you do the same thing?
@daviddorfe22204 ай бұрын
@@Jafromobile I did it exactly the same way you did it. Held it in place by the long part with one hand and awkwardly tried to keep it straight while working the press lever with the other. I learned some things from that experience: I'm not as strong as the press, that white bushing grease will make your life miserable if you aren't careful, and I never want to do those bushings again if I can help it.
@eugennomatterr73114 ай бұрын
Anti-seize lowers friction in thread so when you torque it it is over tightened by quite a margin.
@Jafromobile4 ай бұрын
Nothing is torqued. Also I always hit the low spec margin, I don't go for broke. I like threads.
@hotdognr123234 ай бұрын
@@Jafromobile I believe it was the Torque Test Channel that recently made a video where they quantified the difference it actually makes. If I remember right they easily got to more than 40% more clamping load with anti seize than without, so it makes a significant difference that the range on the torque specs won't account for.

pro tip - put masking tape (painters tape) over the brake shoes while you're installing everything to not get grease or hand oils on the friction material while installing them. Once the job is done simply pull off the masking take to reveal perfectly clean brake shoes.

What brand of urethane bushing did you get? I had a really bad experience with Siberian Bushing. They lasted one month for me. I like the Centric drum brake hardware kits. You can get everything in one package. A few years ago, I ordered a Centric rear brake kit for a 1997 Ford F150. It was so nice to have everything. Were you unable to get OEM Mitsubishi drum brake hardware? For drum brake nubs, I just brush on CRC brake caliper pin grease.
@Jafromobile4 ай бұрын
Sometimes and especially on domestics, Centric is an identical match to the factory hardware. It surprised me this one wasn't completely. It totally would have still worked on my car just fine if I replaced all the anchors with the heavy springs. The only disadvantage to using it would have been a stiffer e-brake handle, and I would have been blatantly disobeying the service manual. I used 5 springs total from the Centric kit, though... the ones I used were actually an exact match of the OEMs. Regarding the Mitsubishi hardware, everything I re-used was correct, so I sorta did get all the OEM hardware. Even the paint color on the centric kit for the springs I replaced was correct, so nobody would ever be able to tell it apart. I'm just lucky the 1 spring I damaged was the one that was over-represented in the Centric kit. The bushings are the Energy Suspension master bushing set for 2g T/E/L, minted in 2001. The kit looks nothing at all like this today. The packaging is so retro! lol...
