About camera focus- CCD thrive on IR absorbency to get a RAST and edge of perception. If a surface is too blingy, it will scatter rather than reflect; too dark- you get _refraction_. Putting an IR absorbent substrate in the path (hand) will change focus. Ambient temperature and humidity of a substrate will also effect focus length.
@Jafromobile4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I figured that out with the old camera. It had MUCH BETTER focus routines than this one. Better sensors, bigger lens, just not 4K. I miss using it. But even it had problems with shiny things because the IR would bounce off and reflect the distance to the thing in the reflection.

Michael
@Jafromobile4 жыл бұрын
As you know where light is concerned all things are relative. I'd actually need more light to hit the aperture I wished I could use/needed to fix the focus issues. I've got 15,000 lumens in 64 square feet already, it just flickers because LED. If I shoot faster than 1/30, the camera captures frames that are only partially-lighted causing banding that cycles through the frame. It actually captures the light cycles. If I shoot slower than 1/30 then I can't even hit an editable/usable frame rate to produce videos with. I've done it in super-accelerated stuff and it works, but normal speed video is useless like that. I just need to switch back to a light source that doesn't spend 80% of its duty cycle in the off state while it's on. It absolutely ruins video. I hate LEDs. They have their functions, but it's extremely poor quality light.
@Raptor585594 жыл бұрын
@@Jafromobile Oh! The extent of the problem is much bigger than I expected. The slower shutter also failed as "1/(fps/2)" is the ideal shutter speed calculation. When LEDs are ran at full brightness they shouldn't flicker, as the issue is the dimming - but maybe some light sources are designed to always run on reduced brightness as there is not enough cooling possible for the chosen component. Difficult....

@@Jafromobile did you also measure the rod clearance with the bore gauge and micrometer? to fix rod clearance I mixed two size bearing to get a half step, ACL says you can do it, it was a stock rebuild though no high HP. keep up the good work
@Jafromobile4 жыл бұрын
I did. Well, sort of. I can't use MY bore gauge because its minimum size is 2.1". Rod journals are 1.7730-ish, and I used snap gauges and mics to get those numbers. The rods are fine. They were just sized for the crank that's in the Hyundai. It's the other results that were ever so alarming. I didn't not try splitting bearing shells. I know which side I'd have to do that on, but I won't accept that solution for my goals because of stuff you'll see in future videos.

If you don't already, you can send out your torque wrench for calibration as well as your bore gauge and mic. Depending on where you live I can suggest some places. Or OEM can probably do but more spendy

Hey Jafro I used to work at GRP rods, we made aluminum rods for super high horsepower applications from 4 cylinders all the way up to top fuel. We did not dowl the rods together we cut teeth between the cap and rod that stuck together just right. I know not that helpfull in your case but just thought id share! Thanks for the videos man.

Oh man that’s super frustrating having to got one step forward and two steps back again. Like you said though you’re going to get there and it’s goimg to be RIGHT, well at least as right as you can get it. The more non OEM parts you add and the further from stock spec you get the more frustrating it always is getting them to play the game you want nicely together.

Hi, after all the machine work was essentially done the runout on the journals isn't what you were looking for. I find that insane 😳 after all the time & effort. Some ppl. Would have just called it a day and placed it all together & then kaboom allover the road or track. As time consuming and difficult as it looks awesome progress in the making. 350 to 400 min. Hp on pump gas hopefully. Have a safe week .
@Jafromobile4 жыл бұрын
My goals are actually a lot higher than that. I made 430 on the old setup with a Big16g. All of that is changing. The runout came from the oversized bearing, and it was gone once I put a set of standards back in there. The oversize bearing just cocked the crank at an angle. There's actually no runout on the crank journals. There's a much worse problem, but we'll get there soon.

At 41:35 there is a suspicious burr in on of the crank balancing holes. Wouldn't want that to come loose once it's spinning.
@Jafromobile4 жыл бұрын
Wait... I answered this comment didn't I? I remember typing it... ? It said something like... "I went out to the garage and tried to pick it out, and it's firmly-attached. I'm conflicted about removing it because this crank is perfectly zero-balanced". I swear this comment is older than 41 minutes ago... because it's been hours since I did that. how you do this?

@Jafromobile4 жыл бұрын
@@tangles01 lol. Whelp... I think I have a much kinder and gentler way to deliver his point. Plastigauge isn't for measuring oil clearances. The DSM service manual suggests to always do it, and specifically to check oil clearances with it, but there's a lot that it doesn't catch. Coincidentally, there's a whole lot that a bore gauge doesn't catch, either, and plastigauge can reveal it. I get where he's coming from, but perhaps he could work on his delivery? I'm of the opinion that you should always do both.
@tangles014 жыл бұрын
@@Jafromobile That was my counter, I said what if I made mistake in my measurements, why not do this to confirm, yeah it takes a bit of extra time but if the measurements don't agree, I will have to do something about it, in my case everything was spot on. He refused to get it, so I asked if he'd ever made a mistake in his career and he said no, that was the end of the conversation.
