I love music videos. They're so much easier to narrate. I don't want to upset anyone by not providing commentary about what I'm doing or where this build is going... and this is the video where all that stuff comes together. Quite frankly, I missed you. I really enjoy these little talks we share.
In this video is a little fabrication, maintenance, comparison and assembly. Un-boxings, cleanup, break-fix... Variety! You know... The stuff that keeps happening as you wrap up any build. It's not a longblock until it has manifolds, and a turbo build has a few more things than just that in order to make it complete. My attention has now turned towards preparing the chassis and accessories for installation and I promise there will be more involved videos following this one for the hardcore auto techs. Whether you're watching or wrenching on this one, all this stage does is create anxiety for wanting to hurry up and finish the install, but don't rush. Do it right!
These are the non-reusable parts for the turbo install. ALL of the other part numbers in the video were shown:
MF241255 x2 Oil Drain Bolts (upper)
MF101229 x2 Oil Drain Bolts (lower)
MF660031 x2 Oil Drain Gasket (washer)
MR258477 x2 Oil Drain Gasket (flange)
MF660064 x2 Oil Feed Crush Washer (turbo)
MF660063 x2 Oil Feed Crush Washer (head)
MF660065 x4 Coolant Crush Washer (turbo)
MD132656 x4 Turbo Bolt (M10 x 80 x 1.25mm)
MD132933 x8 Turbo Spring Washers
Thank you all for keeping up with this build. Thanks especially for the kind comments and interest in this project! You guys are the best!

***** I watch your videos religiously and just finished up my first complete Manley/Wiseco rebuild on my 91 Mirage 4G63 swap. your attention to detail has forced me to take a "spare no expense" and a "by the book" route to the build and I am happy to say that after first start up the only problem I experienced was a pin hole on the lower radiator hose... literally the only thing not replaced or inspected. Thank you! you are my savior to questions I don't need to ask.

found this same exact hole stripped when I took my manifold off. This video helped me quickly find the correct thread repair kit. I appreciate that you always show part numbers in your videos, they have helped me quickly find parts that would have normally taken alot of googling.

Man, that cat loves those drill bits. Also, I think your method of video shooting/editing is spot on. Sharing pertinent information that is synched with the video, some comic relief, sped up to get though long wrenching sessions but slowed to show important details, etc. There are few, if any, car tech related videos that I enjoy watching more.

He does. They're his. I got them for X-mas last year, and I'm really not kidding... they're his favorite thing. What you're seeing is a daily and continuous ritual. He sits on them, sleeps on them, and continuously grooms and rubs on them. I don't get it? If he gets pestilent, I put them in the middle of the floor and he leaves me alone, busy for hours. I think perhaps they are coated in WD40??? ...which is actually fish oil. It's the only thing I can come up with to explain it? I sit in that office for hours editing, and it's one of the few things that will keep him off my keyboard. Thank you for your kind words and vote of confidence in my work!

I LOVE how that rusty old heat shield looks! There is nothing worse than being nearly finished with a repair or rebuild and have aluminum threads ooze out of something critical when you torque them! Learn something new every day... I never knew a stainless bolt would often bite in stripped threads... the things you find out! I was very impressed by the Monty Python-like cartoon foot stomp! "Now for something completely different" Can't wait to see what the time slip says when you get'er all dialed in! "Some random plate I don't recognize" LOL Great vid as usual... background music, no background music... Jafro is always entertaining.

MrComa, I should have taken notes in the video so ***** would know how much I laughed at what joke. :) Yes, I too have found, in my last example a tool, not a part, a welding tool, AFTER I bought another new one. If it's steel, now that I can weld, even long after an unrecognizable can be used, I hold on to it, never know what welding problem it'll solve. Yes, stainless bolts have a bit wider thread. I believe ScannerDanner said that was the case because stainless steel bolts are rolled instead of stamped steel. The heat shield did make me laugh as the character of the build continued. Jafro, I'm very glad, not every project will get all your polish. After all, what character would the last use of this engine best take, tons of polish or the years on this earth it's spent being shown in grime, metal pits, and rust! And still smacking most Mustangs down like they were nothin'! :)

GREAT video man! So cool to lock att a person that has so much attention to details. LOVE IT! My project right now is porting and tuning my Volov that have a B230F 8valve engine N/A. Original the head on that motor is a 530. butt i looked up on my lokal junkyard and they had a 531 sitting on a car. so i went down there and unbolt it and so cause it has a bit higher flowrate fom the factory almost 20HP. When i was doing this i looked up on youtube for some tutorials and found you! i have followed every step and bought every tool you recomended. Right now its done porting and polishing and its redy to pick up from my machine shop that has removed 2mm to get better compression. Thank Alot for the amazing videos and you have helped me trough this process! Greetings from Sweden!

Here's a useful tip. When you did the exhaust manifold re-thread, you should have drilled a hole first in a piece of flat 2 x 4 using a drill press; then you could have put the block over the port, lined up the hole and used the wood block as a guide. You would have had that drilled perfectly straight.

The level of knowledge on this platform blows me away video after video, you should open your own service for rebuilding 4g63 motors! We all know you know you're way around this motor more than anyone else, plus I bet you could rebuild a mean short block which is what a lot of people mess up on. Plus people know you use all stock gaskets and don't skimp. In addition you have all the nifty dsm tools! Have you ever thought of it? I would love to have my 7 bolt bottom end done by you because I know you would do it just as mitsubishi did 15 years ago!

For removing glued on gaskets and such off parts like thermostat housings I put them on my belt sander for a couple seconds. They come out cleaned and perfectly flat. 6" x 48" belt sander from harbor freight for about $200. It has paid for itself because the size allows me to surface turbo flanges, intake and exhaust manifolds etc. One of the best tools I ever bought.

***** Jafro, You should look into 3M Roloc Bristle wheels. Thats what we use to clean up gasket surfaces before assembly, speficially we use the green disk. They take gasket material right off, but don't damage aluminum. We even use it on heads that don't need machining prior to assembly.
@Jafromobile
@Jafromobile 9 жыл бұрын
Actually, it's the white ones that don't damage aluminum. The green ones are for cast iron. I use them to clean up the head gasket surface on an iron block if I'm using a composite gasket. They are awesome, but there are a number of flanges I still prefer the razor blades on (on my own vehicles of course). If I worked on cars for a living and got paid by the job, I'd use nothing other than Roloc discs.

a good way to drill hardened tool steel is to use diamond tipped concrete drill sharpen it and spin it about 1800-2000 rpm and press hard on it the drill will simply melt through i think it is called friction drilling. I have used this method for drilling holes in leaf springs and also spool type springs

If you put a crows foot at 90 deg (perpendicular) to the torque wrench no math required, applied torque is the set torque! it's only when you use one straight off the end (parallel) that it becomes a lever and changes torque spec.

I'm sorry bud. I've been there, too. I wouldn't have known to give that advice had I not done it myself. If it's any condolence, it could be worse and here's why... Something thing I learned in cub scouts and confirmed the hard way later in life is the most dangerous knives are dull knives. The ragged cuts they leave behind take forever to heal and are more painful and prone to infection. The down-side of sharp knives is they cut so much deeper. Take good care of your bandages and you'll heal quickly. Hopefully never to repeat it.

It's going to ruin you. Once you get the hang of it, you'll realize it's teaching you everything you didn't know about using a torque wrench. To further accelerate your learning curve with it, don't stop at the beep. The beep doesn't mean it's done. It only means you're *close* to your target. It will vibrate once you hit your target. SLOWLY increase its load until it hits your target. That's how you're supposed to use every torque wrench, but this one will teach you how slow to go. Analog wrenches will never do that. Again, it will ruin you. Stock up on AA's.

I blame the economy. 2014 has been "Year of the Hyundai", and I'll be happy to put this one to bed so I can get back to fabrication and other projects that haven't received the love they deserve. Hopefully I'll find a way to make 2015 "year of the 4-car garage" so I don't have to make these kinds of sacrifices. I'm slapping around 44 minutes of footage right now, trying to figure out how to present the rest of the Hyundai project. A lot has to come together, and I'm venturing into some uncharted territory. Aside from a lot of writing, scripting and homework, I'm suffering from a mild case of videographer's block because it's a little overwhelming. Now worries, though... I've got some ideas how I'm going to deal with it, and I'll find a way to make this next video happen. ;)

Every car seems to have a 13mm security bolt in a different place... There was another one in my most recent video.

@@Jafromobile I've enjoyed watching these old videos. I almost didn't believe they were from around 2014, amazing video quality.

1:50 *pro tip* use the crows foot at a 90 degree on the wrench it doesn’t add length to the wrench and there for no torque compensation is needed

hey man, nice job. I can assume from a previous vid the chassis work has something to do with windscreens cracking from excessive torque :), this thing is so close to being back on the track now its great to see.

I use a sst called my right arm, it tells me every time when I'm beginning to over-torque something.

Crows foot @ 90 degrees would work. Torque is the same. Besides I'm not sure the +/- 1 lb would matter.
