Greetings from America! I was 13 when this kit first came out in 1973. I built one back in the day, and I'm fortunate to have an unbuilt one in my 'stash' that I hope to build in the near future. I've been building models since I was six, and I credit Monogram Models' Armor Series (and especially the Diorama Tip Sheets written by the late Shep Paine) for keeping me in the hobby at a time when so many boys my age were moving away from model building for 'other interests.' Though 1/32nd scale ultimately lost the "scale wars" to 1/35th, these old Monogram kits had lots of potential; especially when combined with the contemporary Airfix Multi-Pose figures. Some very fine dioramas could be built, but there was a lack of aftermarket accessories that required modelers in the mid 1970's to "get creative" with a combination of scouring the house for supplies (gauze bandages for camouflage netting) and scratch building. You are very fortunate to have this kit, and I hope you have a lot of fun building it! Thanks for sharing this!

Its great to see these older kits again. As a boy they were too 'complex' for me ,but when I started getting bored with airfix- these were the kits I aspired to! Thanks for sharing this

I wasn't much older when I built it.

This is crazy... I was about the same age, and I built it in my grandmothers front room one weekend. Brilliant synchronicity.

I can remember having the Jagdpanzer IV. Must have been back in the Seventies as well. I always preferred the 1:32 scale kits to 1:35 scale . Some how 1:32 scale figures seemed to have more detail and looked more realistic than 1:35 scale . The same with 1:32 scale vehicles ,seemed to capture the bulk and weight of armoured vehicles better than 1:35 scale. But that is just my opinion.

The tip of the barrel took a long time to find. But we got there in the end. It was a great build. And it's interesting how we can date ourselves by the age of our models. Cheers mate. MM.

That's actually a pretty nice kit, considering its age. Especially the molded on zimmerit...Tamiya wasn't even doing that back then on their kit of the same tank. The figures look good too. It was neat to see the old mini-catalog. A long time ago, I built the M29 Weasel and the M48 Patton tank that were shown in it.

I always wanted to get them all, but they were not easy to come by in Britain. I think they sold out the moment they entered the shop. i wish I'd got the Patton now. At the time I as just bowled over by the really German ones. Have you still got those ones Joe?

@@modelmeltdown359 Sadly both kits are gone now. I did get another M29 kit and have been checking out other people's builds of it, to see ways of improving it. I considered getting a newer boxing of the Patton, because it's still available in a couple of the stores near me. The only thing stopping me is that I still have the Tamiya M48A3 Patton to build. Just FYI, the Monogram is an M48A2. I guess that the new Dragon M48s are the best, but are fairly expensive.

I had all of the Monogram armor kits. The guy that did the models was Shepard Paine...a great builder, but sadly he passed away. Check out his stuff

The Brummbär Sturmpanzer 43 in the booklet looks more like the Grasshopper panzer 4 from that drawing lol

For those days these were beautiful kits, but I never understood WHY did the same manifacturer produced its tanks part in 1/32 and others in 1/35 scale? At least Tamiya and others made their kits in the same, standardized scale!
