That's so sad, I've been big into rsps, spawnpk and others have been my home as they are tightly knit communities focused on specific things(usually pking). I only play the real servers when limited time game modes come around since there is far less of a grind to get to the content i like. Also i don't have to pay for membership for these servers and all there content can be gotten for free.

RO private servers went through something similar and the server owners made the lawsuits difficult by deleting all game assets. Instead, players would need to manually copy the asset files from the official client into the private server's client.

Saying project zaniris practically gives you the ability to do whatever you want on the jagex sanctioned private servers is misleading since most people (probably including you) have no idea what kind of control jagex will give a "owner" of these servers other then whatever bs corporate wording everyone has read. ​@@geweetMost RSPS have an NPC that can adjust stats and items to pk however you want at that moment in time for $0 a month, RS pking purely for the sport of it for free. Others are just dumbed down RS where rare drops are like 1/3 - 1/10, in which case Zanaris is probably superior. Unless Zanaris lets players respawn to right next to the Wildly Wall next to an NPC to edit items and stats and has /teleport commands to custom locations then free PK servers will still have a niche.

The players of the RSPS wanna pk, or wanna pvm but dont have the time to grind like a lot of us on osrs, jagex doing this is just going to push people away from the runescape scene in general, another jagex decision further killing their shocking game. The gambling on private servers seems bad, however it's helped me a ton, i was an irl gambling addict, started gambling on rsps instead never donated or anything, and now i don't gamble with my real life money. the RSPS gambling saved me.

@@Mousek3 ofcourse i do, however, so does jagex, since jagex was sold all they've done is release a terrible boss and hike up membership prices, it's a shocking game where half the playerbase is bots and they're killing it even more by taking legal action against the rsps scene. What they should've done is waited until project zanaris dropped then done the righting, it would've pushed us rsps players to play on the official private servers. This is why tons of us run massive bot farms, to spite jagex and make money whilst doing it :)

@@xoxoDonkey 99.5% of rsps have no original content and have just been making cookie-cutter servers, taking donations, and self-killing the servers (claiming hacks/takedowns/etc) whenever the cashcow whale "donors" get capped on stuff and get bored, all so they can re-launch the servers under a new name and repeat the whole process. I've played on them since the beginning, on so many over the years, and the pattern remains the same for all but some of the ones with actual custom code/content (real custom, not just modified values/images, talking new minigames and maps, skill mechanics, etc., and those are pretty much extinct now). They got some ideas from the rsps, absolutely. But Zanaris will be a way better way to have the servers exist, especially regarding MTX and player exploitation. Trident and such jmods seem like saints compared to so many of the owners/mods of the big rsps out there.

it needs to be mentioned that the **vast** majority of Clog activities don't allow for random events, so it's honestly not a great representation of rarity in regards to the stale baguette. Until fairly recently it wasn't even really possible to get them when doing clues (due to them not following through many teleports, including POH).

I will say. Before osrs was released there was a 2007scape private server that got shut down. Jagex probably understood how successful osrs would be due to the immense popularity that private server had. So IMO we likely have 2007scape private server to thank for getting our beloved addicting game back lol.

The most prominent being "RUNE". It's kind of funny, because there is one called Oldschool RSPS. It isn't on the list of domains they're attempting to take.

Project Zanaris is several birds with one stone; it lets Jagex kill off 3rd party private servers and have revenue one way or another going to them, ala be the one selling the shovels in the gold rush rather than looking for gold. It's more tools for content creators, which have been some of if not the most significant marketing arms for the game WHO PAY to play Runescape. It allows the community to make new quests and other content which can be tested and tuned and if it's outstanding, Jagex can import it into the main game, which means they can have fewer devs on the team, which means OSRS can cost less to run in some aspects but not nessessarly overall.

I have played private servers in the past and some legit servers are very good. I know it is an IP breach and this has been the case for over a decade, but I hope that they can get some sort of resolution. In my opinion, for instance, allow private servers to exist until the project Zanaris is realized. Allow only private servers that are approved by Jagex and the owners have to give a share of their profits they make over to Jagex. I really like the project Zanaris idea, but this will still be a while for this to exist. RuneScape private servers are unrefined RuneScape versions, but they can be a great alternative. This is just a honest opinion, you don't have to agree with anything I said. Just an opinion from a random person on the internet.

I played OSRS and RSPS. I enjoy RSPS because its easier to obtain what you want to have fun in the game. OSRS makes everything too time consuming to start having fun. I know a lot love to grind there life away on OSRS but i cba since i play for fun. I have a max account on OSRS though. It's just not very fun to lose my items there pvping lol. I dont pvp to make money. If the testing weapon/gear was open 24/7 i wouldnt even play RSPS.
