you might be too young, but back in teh days (2000-2007) when this game was on Miniclips / browser ONLY you had an ad bar at the top all the time in f2p and even members i think. so its nothing unheard of... f2p ads should be a thing.

The issue with accepting the CEO at his word, is that Runescape 3 has had very similar outbursts and the same dog and pony show placated everyone until they forgot two weeks later. While I would love to think the worst is behind us, Jagex's past actions show otherwise. The victory people feel now is false, dont resubscribe too soon.

In the apology from Mod Pips under Ads in Membership he says they will not include in-game advertisement in any REGULAR paid membership while under AFK Timers he says that they will not be reducing AFK timers for ANY paid memberships. This tells me that ads are coming, at least for F2P. Just you wait boys

For me, the fact that a lot of this is even on the table shows the direction Jagex is wanting to take the game. Even if they apologize and promise to "do better" and they "hear us", it's the same sorry excuse every time they do this. We've heard those exact quotes probably half a dozen times in the past couple years. They 100% plan to go through with at least some of the ideas in the survey, and that's the most concerning thing.

I understand the mods and developers may not want this, but at the end of the day the company that owns them has final say on a lot of this, if they don't feel like we will stop, it will eventually get to that point, unless they feel like the money will dry up they will gradually introduced this. EOC killed the game for me for a long time, this is doing it again.

we have been with our favourite OSRS content creators for 10+ years at this point. If runescape dies from atrophy its a sour loss but we still need to keep in touch with the creators, that lives on. I personally havent played RS in like 3 years but I still watch all the creators. That is who I was invested in in the first place!

I too use gp to buy bonds for subscriptions. whats happening is the lattest company that bought Jagex paid 1 billion dollars for it. They want to make their money back within 3 years. It is obvious but the thing is they would make more money on volume than on price. A market of people who can spend 5 dollars a month is 100x larger than a market of people who can spend 50 dollars. Anyone making a game pay attention for a subscription of less than 10 dollars a month you will grow more than increasing your prices by 20 to 30 % per year. or every 6 months.

They've destroyed the most important thing with a community, trust. I cancelled mine immediately upon learning they were considering this bs. It's obvious from the survey that this is something they've been sitting on for a while, and it's obvious from the responses that they are absolutely still considering it. Like many I will be keeping an eye on things, but I don't have high hopes and I sincerely hope that the backlash from this shows them exactly how much of a monumental trash heap of a decision they've made xD I would have liked to see them put up a video with genuine responses instead of more cooperate damage control nonsense.

They're absolutely going to keep pushing until all of that is in the game unless something changes, like jagex being sold again. I canceled my membership. I've got other things going on in my life that were pushing me away from it already, but I always kept my sub up in case I found the time to play, and because I wanted to support the game. I'll resub if they post a sincere apology and lower the price. Alternatively, if someone were to buy the game and take the company private, then I'd resub. You've got to stand for something.

The thing is there are ways to monetize the game that would be generally acceptable. I don’t think any of the RuneScape community wants Jagex to flop or be unsuccessful. However the things they suggest are just ludicrous. It’s like saying hey we know that we only have jobs because you guys are willing to pay for our game but fuck you we don’t want some of your money we want it all. And these people seem disconnected from the reality of not just our community but society as a whole. Like maybe everyone at jagex is living off a six figure salary and don’t need to worry about a specific subscription service increasing their prices but the state of the world right now just doesn’t allow that for most people. Everything is a subscription service now. We are having to pay more and more every year for things that didn’t cost us shit 10 years ago and wages are not matching that. It’s just less and less likely that people are going to be willing to spend $30+ a month to play a video game. Especially when last month it was half that. We got rent and shit to worry about. Shame on every single person that had a hand in those surveyed changes, especially Mod Pip.

I stopped playing osrs a few years ago after being a front page player since 2007, honestly never been happier. I love RS but I'm happier watching videos than doing the grinds myself. I do think the end to RS will happen at some point, it's only a matter of time before greed takes over. Owners aren't players. Mistakes will be made, just like when everybody left with rs3 and eoc, removal of trade and wilderness etc. This game will have another big fuck up and then in 2035 there will be 2025 rerelease to get players back again. People in business want to make money. You don't buy a company to not make money. Just the way things are. Thankfully there are thousands of fun games out there that I've been enjoying since quitting osrs, so there's still friends to be made and fun to be had even if the game dies for good. I'll enjoy your content even if you swapped full time to a walking in the country channel. Game needs its players more than the players need the game.

Ive played since 2001 and i quit when EOC came out. I came back when old school came back out. Since the proposal of "Membership tiers" i cancelled all 8 of my memberships. I love the game, and understand they are a bussiness and have to make money. They have increased the price before and it didnt make me want to quit. If they would have just said "hey guys were not making enough money right now to add more servers, and hire more people to make more content." Im sure the community would have said ok fine, it would have been annoying with another increase in the price but we would have understood why. But they wanted to charge for things that are already in the game, and bring ads, and customer support is not something that should be locked behind a more expencive pay wall. The customer support has been horrible for years and we still play the game. Even in most instances lately the the improvements made to the game have not been by jagex. its been by people making plugins for runelite and features in runelite that they did for free to have players better enjoy and better understand the game. And now Jagex wants to profit off of all the community contributions? Thats what makes me the most irritated and what made me cancel all my subs. They are going to have to do a lot more than a half ass blog post labeled an 'apology' before i return because the big wigs upstairs just showed how much they truely 'appreciate' all the hard work the community put into their game for free and now they want to make it their own and line their pockets with it. Just irritating to see a game ive loved for over 20 years go downhill twice :/

I've played long enough to know that people will stomp thier feet and complain, they may even cancel thier membership...for a day until they resubscribe. People too addicted to this game. You could argue the mass quitting when EOC launched, but that was a completely different game. Big business will do what it's investors want done to make more money, that's what they're in it for, they don't care about people's feelings. Some of that list will happen. I wouldn't be surprised if they pulled being able to buy members with a bond

To be fair! if they would have asked politely to up the membership a bit to make the enhanced player support possible and also to be able to put like 2 characters on one membership, i would have been fine with it! I do think they put alot of effort in the game and also make alot of good content. I can imagine that a good player support does cost allot of money. That being said, what they'v done is comepletely outrages and feels like they try to steal every little penny we got. I love the game not only because of the content but a big reason is the non monitisation on it and aswell the horizantal progression which values my time spend on it. I truely hope this games will stay true since all the games i loved are destroyed by company greed. If this continues like this, ill be only playing singel player games in the future....

Corporate greed will kill osrs this year. They will absolutely be adding things from the survey, likely on a slightly smaller scale, and unless there is a mass exodus it will continue to get worse until the game dies completely. As Mod Matt K said, the uproar rarely has any effect on Jagex monetarily because players don't actually leave. I cancelled both of my memberships and I wish you all the best.
