Mt. Ida is a favorite hike, but I had never heard the name Jagor Point. We long ago named the rock outcropping where you saw Marmots as Marmot City. We once viewed 13 Big Horn Rams chilling on the tundra on the way to Ida and on the way back. The views from this area are spectacular and you captured it so well that Jagor Point is now a must. We once snagged two nights at the campsite at Little Rock Lake; a dream of ours. However, our company imposed on us to take their young kids along. Fortunately, their father planned to hike part way with us. With delays starting out, we found ourselves on the shoulder of Ida at 5PM. I told them that we would be setting camp in the dark. I proposed a consolation prize; drop our packs where we were, climb Ida, and I would spring for pizza downtown. We have still never been down into Forest Canyon. If you ever hike down there, I will be with you in spirit. Thanks for your beautiful videos.

Serendipity.... I have been a fan of your videos for quite a while now. Today, the very day you released this video I scattered the ashes of my recently passed Father . his wife and his dog just above Milner Pass. To say that your videos are special to me is an understatement. That this one came on this day is a sign from above. Thank you for all of the effort time and money you put in to bringing these beautifully created videos to us all. Peace!

Beautiful Views! Those lakes below are awe inspiring. Wish there was a way to get to those lakes. I haven't tried to hike any summits yet but this one may get me out there. I'm more of a lake destination hiker. We did Shelf and Solitude Lakes last week.

Nick, this is perhaps the most beautiful hike video yet - and that takes some doing! Before we had to cancel our trips the last two years, we were planning to do Mt. Ida, thinking that would yield the best views of the Gorge Lakes plus a tundra hike. You've shown us something we didn't know existed, and we are grateful! Wow! This is a new one for the RMNP bucket list! Peace!
@nicksangetta88743 жыл бұрын
Ida is good, but you come up to the summit and basically get one view of the Lakes. The walk out to Jagor was like an overhead tour of them. Plus there were some additional lakes I didnt even know to look for! Namely Love Lake and Little Rock Lake. But if you are into lakes, this is probably the best area in the park. I hope you get to come out next year.

Only been to Jagor Pt one time, but this really brought back some memories. I allows intended to go down to Arrowhead, but never got around to it. I know you're not lake-oriented, but have you ever considered camping (i.e., at L Rock Lake and exploring the lakes below Ida)? I usually go up the little side trail past those rock outcrops just above treeline to the flat tundra and walking to that first cirque to avoid all the up and down hiking on the trail. I've been down to those little lakes at the bottom of that first cirque a few times. Really neat. The Ida trail can be worrisome in the summer afternoon because of the thunderstorms. I've always found a place to park in the lot or along the road across from it because a lot of people just stop for a few minutes to take a picture of the Continental Divide sign. According to my notes, I hiked 547 miles in RMNP this summer and Fall. Now, back in MO and catching up on a lot of the the videos I missed. I'd rather watch them on my TV. Bumping into you & Barb on Twin Sisters was the highlight of my summer. So cool. I just wish I had thought of asking for a photo with you or for one of your cards as a souvenir. Gave lots of people a note with your name and how to view your videos.
@nicksangetta88743 жыл бұрын
It was great running into you also! 547 miles is a lot. Holy moly. Thats a ton of hiking! I did a couple hundred miles this summer but not 547! I havent thought about camping too much. Its just not my thing. I like being out there in the daytime. But I do want to hit those Gorge Lakes at some point. I dont know if I can get all the way down to Rock Lake.. but I think a cool route would be to summit Ida then drop down to the Ida-Cheley saddle and access the Highest Lake from there. Then work it down through the lakes to Jagor Point. Find a way up and then connect it back with the trail to complete the loop. Maybe next year..

12:31 if anybody finds some car keys on that hill between Inkwell & Azure, please let me know. Thanks for pointing out this spot! Great views! I can’t recommend going down into that basin (preferably early July) enough if you haven’t. Went back to Longs again yesterday (summited via Keyhole), and was hit with snow on the descent. It’s officially my favorite part of the park again, but this is a close second.
@nicksangetta88743 жыл бұрын
Congrats on Longs! That is awesome! Its so hard I have to mentally prepare for like a month to do it. I think Jamey may be attempting it on Tuesday not sure. I mean its hard to beat Longs. Its the king of the north. But for a lake spot.. I think this may be the best in the park. I think if I go down, it might have to be from the saddle of Ida-Cheley. Maybe start from up there, take it down by Azure and Inkwell then climb up a different spot to complete a loop may be cool.
@Tristan_Brewer3 жыл бұрын
@@nicksangetta8874 Definitely gotta study your line getting down there, I just winged it somewhere along that path to Jagor (didn’t know Jagor was there & assumed a cairn on the ridge meant the best spot to descend). There’s a legend of access via Forest Canyon that a ranger mentioned, but I have zero beta on that. > Longs Yeah dude, I’m calling it my favorite 14er. Why? 1.) it’s so vast -there are endless miles of alpine terrain to explore 2.) relatively little loose rock 3.) it’s beautiful-it is one of the most aesthetically pleasing 14ers in the state 4.) The variability of routes -there are what? 100s of routes to the top. But yeah, great day, ended up hitting a Phish concert immediately afterwards; talk about tired.
@nicksangetta88743 жыл бұрын
@@Tristan_Brewer Great points on Longs. Never really thought about the lack of loose rock but your right! There isnt too much. Its just so prominent too.. you look down onto EVERYTHING from the top. So amazing.. my book talks about descending into the Forest Canyon from the Forest Canyon Overlook. I guess you go past the stone turret and there is some kind of trail that goes down. And it goes DOWN. Like an immediate 3000 ft drop or something. Its insane. Hitting those Gorge Lakes sounds pretty enticing though.. maybe will save that for next summer.

Awesome video! I used to love looking into that hanging valley from trail ridge rd. It was awesome seeing the lakes on your Mt Julian video, but I think they looked even better from this side. I thought it was funny when you got excited about the quartz. I was thrilled to see the metamorphic banded rock when you were on the way out. I think that is part of those dark stripes you can see on the sides of longs peak on your Mt Meeker video recently.
@nicksangetta88743 жыл бұрын
Lol! I have no idea what Im talking about with the rocks. I see some really crazy stuff at the tops of some of those mountains. And yes I agree the Hanging Valley is beautiful! I like it because its so remote. No people down there. Seems more wild.

Yet another excellent video. A) Where else can I get 4K footage, even into the sun of a peak that is so rare there's not even a register? B) Momma Barb hiking along with you is always a pleasure. She truly is a champ for keeping up. C) I got the urge to watch someone hang gliding down from that summit down to the lakes (or base jumping!) but that's never a smart idea given the location But the best bit? The music kicked this one up a few scales. And the words you might want are exquisite, sublime, stupendous. Sure there's more but those are a good start. *grin*

Awesome hike Nick! Yet another hike for my to-do list. What are your thoughts about accessing the Gorge Lakes from Jagor Point?
@nicksangetta88743 жыл бұрын
Thanks Matt. I wasnt paying too much attention to a descent route down in that spot. But there has to be a weakness in there somewhere. A cool loop would be to summit Ida, drop it down to the Cheley Saddle.. then you are at the top of the lakes. Work it down and around them then back up by Jagor somewhere and loop it back. I think I will go for that next year.
@jennkmho3 жыл бұрын
Another amazing video! I watched your Mt Ida video too. The views from Jagor Point look better than Mt Ida’s. Which one did you like better?
@nicksangetta88743 жыл бұрын
Mt Ida is a little taller and you get nice views down into the southwest part of park.. but I kinda like Jagor because no one is out there and you get more dynamic views of the lakes. Jagor is a tiny bit longer but less gain. They are both really good.. but Id probably go with Jagor for the seclusion. Ida is getting pretty dang popular.
@rachabob18793 жыл бұрын
Jack straw mountain looks like it’d be a lot easier going from the ida trail down to it then back up than the standard route that you did. I haven’t done jack straw myself but judging from your video going from ida could be easier
@nicksangetta88743 жыл бұрын
I was looking at that connector from the Ida trail over to Jackstraw and it looks doable.. just a huge down and up but terrain is not bad. I dont know if it would be that much easier but it's definitely another possible route. I might think about doing it down the road.. but I believe next time I do that area Im gonna go down by the Gorge Lakes for a closer look.

Nick, any thoughts on hiking to Highest Lake????
