actually mai bhi phd karne ka soch rhi thi bachpan se....abhi project krne PRL aayi hu ....bohot logo se baat hui idhr PhD students and Post Docs se....pata chala isme koi job security nahi h...5 saal mehnat krne k baad bhi aapko post doc krna padega jiski funding 2se 3 saal he hoti h...fir naya post doc dhundo.....assistant professor ban sakte ho lekin vacancies bohot kam h or vo bhi till 32 for general....1 vacany k liye 1000 log line me h...har koi ek se badhkar ek...agr aapke 4 paper published h toh saamne vale k 5....or apne guide se bana k rakhna is very important...cz unke upar literally aapki PhD ka decision depend krta h...vo chahe toh aapke 4 5 paper publish kara sakte h or agar chahe toh aapki PhD kheech bhi sakte h and funding sirf 5 saal ki he h......sorry for the lengthy rant...but ye sb jaan k kaafi chinta ho rahi h...or logo ko bhi pata hona chahiye ye sab

Scopes are - API score -30 marks for Ph.D. Which is going to put u in merit Work as professor Promotion benefits Get respect for Dr. Tag High chances of getting high post job whether in govt. Or private.. But make sure u have good command on English and Computer skills as well, degree is not sufficient enough as many are having.

I have a PhD from an IIT. I did it because I thought I could go to the USA. I couldn't go to the USA nor got a job in academics since my PhD is in an interdisciplinary field. Now I am doing work in the software industry since I know coding and used it in my PhD work. I could have gotten it just after my graduation or post graduation. I lived on false assumptions, false sense of getting attention by being an IITian PhD. Lost precious time of my life, lived on low fellowship in the name of salary to give false happiness to my parents. I am a long shot, did b tech, mtech, jrf ship, then got into PhD, by the time I reached in my 30s. At the end, if you don't get what you intended for, you feel like a joke. Now I feel like a joke.

I am almost in the same boat. I am doing my PhD but in Literature. I am also working as a professor. But I don't see any permanent jobs anywhere in sight. Also, academic writing gives me such imposter syndrome that I keep feeling worthless. There are days when I am deeply invested in writing and others when I just want to be done. But for what? I know I teach well and I can teach in a college easily. But no jobs without connections and a stupid phd that is truly worthless all things considered. On the bright side, at least you are done with your phd and have the rest of your life to live in peace. Don't envy those with higher pay packages. The work pressure there is also unbearable. Work steadily and I am sure you'll get a well paying job wherever you want sooner or later. Good luck!

I'm pursuing pg but I see PhD students of our department they were so frustrated and they always do all the works of guide like a labour they take our classes if the guide is absent they come to University at 10 and left at 8 after doing all the works.
