Jaguar Accessories for XK8 and XKR. Interesting secrets and quirks

Interesting to see the XJR6 wheels in the booklet. They seemed to be a short-lived design, but I think they look absolutely amazing. Clearly a bit of a nod to XJ220 and they make the XJR6 look very special. Maybe in 1998 Jaguar had some leftovers to sell off with the end of the X300 range and X308 having all new wheel designs. In the XJ X300 range owners book they are simply referred to as "Sport" wheels. They wear 255/45/17 inch tyres as per factory spec. I don't quite know why Jaguar got rid of them so soon. I've never seen an XK8 on those, although I have both an XJR6 and an XK8 now. There is a slight temptation to try them out. It would look strange though if I had say two sets of those wheels and put them on the XK8 too. I have a Jaguar brochure from the late 90s and there is a crash test photo of the XK8, where is has the XJR wheels on.

Thanks biggles I really want to see a nice picture of an xk8 wearing them wheels. As I too think it’s a great design. I just wonder if they would look a little heavy? But mainly think they would look stunning on a darker coloured xk8

Surprised you did not look closer at the winter wheel and tire picture, I was not aware of, or have seen that wheel either. Was wondering if you have seen those in use. (I have a '97 xk8 convertable in meteorite metallic in the usa.)

Hi Leo Thanks for watching. Yes I did gloss over the a bit. Yes I have seen them. Rather disappointingly they are steel wheels with Wheel trims. When the cars first came out in 96-97 I would commonly see cars wearing steel wheels (but no trims) as they left the Castle Bromwich factory on test runs or en route to the transporters. So certainly they were sold, but I doubt they were destined for the UK. Even today we are not big on having two sets of wheels and tyres, despite our completely random weather. (or possibly because fit 🤔)

I grew up with a "jaguar" child seat different tham these ones but very similar fabric pattern to 1st one also I do still have a full bottle of jaguar leather cleaner from 1999

Those wheels you say you have never seen on an XK8 would have never come on that car. Those wheels were made for the 1995 X306 XjR straight 6 "one year only" and they were 17 inch and they are my top favorite wheels next to the Asteroids I have on my 98 XjR. Speaking of the wind deflector, I had one for my 97 XK8 and it was amazing. Cuts down all the wind and noise. Great video again John.

Thanks Mitch. Excellent intel re the wheels. It feels like they must have been trying to unload remaining old stock of these wheels by offering them as an option on the XK8. Its a bit of a mystery why they did not continue with them longer at least on the XJ models, as like yourself, I think its a strikingly good look. Really interesting catalogue, ski rack and the luggage would be great, also the umbrella! Really plays into the GT aspect of our cars.... that torch though... what a gadget! Would love one of those but I doubt mine has provision for that, by 2004 it seems the little cubby for the leather manual/service book had disappeared 🧐 I’m now off to eBay to trawl for XK8 branded tat 🤣

Hi @granblogisimo I didn't realise the later cars do not have the slot above the glove box. Does that mean you don't get the thin brown 'leather-like​' folder? or is it in the black document wallet?

To The Garage I’m not sure if I have the complete document pack but all I have is a dark green leather (or something resembling leather) wallet with half a dozen (thick) manuals and supplements! This fits in the glovebox but takes up most of the room 🤣

To The Garage I saw one of your previous vids on the little compartment and the slim brown wallet, very interesting and prompted me to check mine only to be greeted with no shelf and only a marginally bigger glove box 😔 if you’re interested I could put a 5 min vid of my document pack online for comparison? Not going to be that riveting but I’m sure some of us Jag geeks would watch it 😂

My 2000 XK8 came with the standard 17”inch Lamina wheels which I never really liked. I eventually upgraded to a set of 18” inch Impellers which have totally transformed the car. Wheel choice is very important on this car.

Agree totally Dom. I think that the Lamina reminds me of Porshe Boxter wheels where as the Impeller is an all together more aggressive look.

I've had so many problems with the fl8ppin aerial, ANYTHING that helps that poxy thing go up and down is right up my street. My boot fuse for the thing is currently disabled as I just use a wireless FM receiver to my iPhone. ?

Do you not like the front cover ski rack looks completely out of place spoils the lovely lines of a Jaguar XK 8,also they Should have printed a full picture across a page not the centrefold and of a convertibleAs well as a Coupe

Ski rack does look odd. But who would have thought ski racks on a lotus esprit would look good. Thanks to James Bond, its now an iconic look.
