For me the new F-type is a hands down stunning car but as for the original, the E-type I don't think it's quite as beautiful as lots of people seem to say. To me it looks not unlike a cockroach with wheels, especially in black. I see a lot of similarities with BMW's M coupe. A purposeful looking machine definitely but you wouldn't call it a 'looker'. Not hating on the Jag but not overly keen on the proportions. The exaggerated bonnet, the way the wheels are quite far inset under the arches. Not my personal favourite car. A car that I think is similar in design but better proportioned has to be the original Datsun 240Z. Now of course the name doesn't carry the same cache but design wise i prefer it. So what do you guys think? Are you all as in love with the design of the original e-type as most of the journalists seem to be? Do you think the new Jag is better looking than the original?
@ccx80611 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Personally, I would rather take roadster version (if I could afford it) with the supercharged V8. The wind in your hair and the V8 soundtrack in your ears is well worth the trade off in overall sportiness the coupe offers

They are doing a lot better lately but not making the C-X75 a production car was a HUGE mistake on their part IMO. They where the first of all these new supercars coming out now with all that hybrid technology. They were the ones that had the chance to be a game changer. Instead they had this to say, "it seems like the wrong time to launch an £800,000 to £1 million supercar." Yet, McLaren launches the P1 (£866,000) and all models are sold out. Now all eyes are on McLaren for producing a game changer and the future. This could've been Jaguar and I actually wanted it to be them but for some reason, they tucked their tails and decided not to produce to most advanced vehicle in a LONG time.

Am I the only one that is getting sick of car analysis being formed based on drifting? Jag probably spent countless months working on damping and chassis balance, only for it to be reduced to skids and hoonery. I love drifts as much as the next bloke, but how about a hot lap?
@mybikevideos11 жыл бұрын
Yeah it always amazes me how on top gear when they're talking about handling and corners they only ever show shots of drifts... which is certainly not the fastest way around a corner. I realise drifting looks better for the camera, but its not really a demonstration of how well the car handles at all is it (because I'd say a good driver could do a decent drift in almost any rwd car with a reasonable amount of power)

Gorgeous car, that F-Type. But is it a 911 Turbo slayer? I don't think so.
@Stu28211 жыл бұрын
In terms of pure speed it probably won't kill a 911 Turbo. But absolutely nobody buys cars based on lap times, nobody at all. If it looks great, has similar power, makes the right noises, drives well and the price is relatively similar then it's every bit a competitor.
@rousseau32711 жыл бұрын
StuRaz Oh, absolutely I don't doubt this car is a competitor to the 911 Turbo. But to "slay" the 911 Turbo implies that the F-Type is head-over-shoulders better than the 911 Turbo, which I don't think it is.
@Stu28211 жыл бұрын
ewt415 Then I do apologise. Normally I find idiots who judge cars entirely on lap times that have no taste or passion for cars that brag about junk that can only match numbers for less money. Autocar let themselves down with the title, it isn't really a 911 Turbo rival anyway but it absolutely has an appeal that will sell by the bucket load. Doubt they'll make anything that matches E Type status though.

Looks good. The only negative for me would be it's lack of traction. If it's that bad in the dry, on a racetrack and on new tyres, what's it going to be like in the rain on a normal (bumpy) road? I presume there will be V6 variants? This one might even end up where the base car is the best of the lot. Unless they offer a 4wd option. If they do it really might have a good shot at the 911. Pretty please, Jaguar...

@hunghuge771711 жыл бұрын
***** Agreed but if you're trying to put that much power and torque down 4wd is kind of needed. It's not like the old days where 200hp was decent and 300hp was a monster. The sad truth is two tyres struggle to cope with this much grunt even in a straight line and don't stand a chance out of bends or on bumpy roads. It's a bit of a catch 22. Do you go for ultimate speed which will require 4wd or do you keep a more pure drive but sacrifice numbers? Personally I prefer RWD but I think there should be a 4wd system available as an option. Each to their own and all that.
@MrPabsUk11 жыл бұрын
The sliding was deliberate, 501lb-ft of torque & 542bhp with all driver aids turned off is bound to break traction, & would do even in a 4WD car.. The point of that display was to show how controllable the chassis is in its pure, raw state.

@js00200310 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Actually the R is more in the price range of a standard carrera as a moderately spec'ed out S will cost you upwards of 120K.
@rodrigomora204710 жыл бұрын
You have to take more in account the performance so it would be compared to the Turbo or Turbo S, as the Carrera S has around 400 bhp and the jag 500 something

I would argue this Jag is far more beautiful, best looking rear end of any car today IMO. Also, the porsche is probably less exclusive. I have a hard time believing Jag will outsell the 911. Also, COST is a major issue. We're talking nearly 100,000

the beauty depends on taste.. i find this jag so normal, the 458, 911 turbo and aston martins are way beautiful than it..exclusivity, a 911 Turbo cost 200.000euro so the Jag is outworn. and as i told you, in performance and road capability the porsche is far ahead

I think as a design, the E type is much more successful than the F type. The E type has a design language throughout the entire car. the F type's backend looks like it's been designed by someone else who did the front. It doesn't look bad at all, but there's no continuity.

You're all wrong. No manufacturer uses STEEL brake rotors. They use CAST IRON. Steel is far too soft to use on a street or a race car. I don't see the Jag beating the 911 turbo on track. The 911 will always be the number 1 driver's car out there. For a Jag to even stand a chance it would have to shave a good 100 kg. However when it comes to looks and the noise, the Jag rapes it in the face. 911 will always look a bit too Volkswagen-ish to me, especially in the interior. It just doesn't look like you payed over a 100 000 quid. Not bashing on the 911, I get the type of person who buys it. It's a no-nonsense pure driving machine I'd like to drive on the track. The F.type is a lovable bastard I'd have in my garage.

Steve, I honestly cannot see a single thread between the E-type and this car, other than the badge. The former is one of the very best looking cars ever, whereas [for my money] the F could be a facsimile on steroids of that dead plain and boring S2000. It beggars belief that this car could be compared, in any sense, to the massively physics-bereft dangerous 911. One might seriously ponder how Porsche, manic leaders in stupidity, and faced with a huge drubbing at the 'ring by the GT-R, managed to come up with a MID-ENGINED car to get back in the power/speed/price race.

ianiva "The Turbo annihilates the F-Type from every single point of view" Not on looks and the exhaust note it doesn't. Also if you were in the market for a car in this performance range, a Jag Ftype is far more exclusive than a dime-a-dozen Porsche. Porsches are wonderful cars, dont get me wrong, but if it were my money, I'd have the Jag.
@v_alexiadis11 жыл бұрын
celt67 OK I give you that but the 911 is still a pretty car and sounds nice. And when it comes to the driving, it does annihilate the F-Type. Much quicker and drives better as well. Love the F-Type but for me it doesn't compare to the Turbo. It can't.
@bradanderson211 жыл бұрын
