The ghastly black one (in fact burgundy) is my creation not to everyone’s taste but runs all the modern refineries of a v8 supercharged xjr I use it all the time and even do track days an Hill climbs also tows my caravan to silverstone for the classic each year I had a standard 3.8 mk2 and never used it as it was not practical as an everyday car most people like it in fact love it but there will always be the purists who don’t appreciate that I rescued it from a scrap yard

Neil Blaxill Good for you! Glad to hear another mk2 has been rescued. Admittedly I'm not crazy about the fender flares, but hey, it's not my car :-)
@racketman2u6 жыл бұрын
yes, taste is such an individual thing, I like the MkII how they came, but I loved the flares on John Steed's (The New Avengers) roadgoing copy of the Broadspeed racing XJ12C, but many would be aghast at the lovely XJ bodywork being hacked.

Love the Mark 2. Right from its starring role in Inspector Morse. Classy. And indeed in 1950’s Britain I understand it was amongst the most favoured getaway cars used by those cads and bounders and rogues who used to make a living robbing banks and suchlike. And yes, the Jag MK2’s shown here are all absolutely gorgeous...

The one thing that never made sense with these Mk 1 and 2 models, was turning that lovely engine into a boat anchor by reducing it to produce the 2.4, If the RAC horsepower system was still in place to calculate the registration fee based, as it was, on the bore diameter, then there was nothing to be saved?
@adoreslaurel4 жыл бұрын
@Goldfinch You might be because that system might [probably has] died out, I don't live in the UK. The old formula was 0.4 d squared N , if a 3 inch bore. 3 X 3 = 9 X 6 = 54 X 0.4, +21.6 Taxable HP. for 6 Cyl car. Some Americans scratch their heads when they see a pre war English Ford V8 advertised as having some rediculously low HP figure but they always quoted them using the taxable HP.

Having owned one many years ago, I learned to only check the oil level during daylight - the placement of the dipstick at the rear of the block makes it almost impossible to find the proper opening, even with a flashlight!

But the wing mounted mirrors were great! Always in your vision - I don’t know why we ever moved them to the doors?

My '59 MKIX also had a dipstick that was difficult to put back. I got down there with a brass bristled brush and buffed up that dull, dark area and now find the dipstick hole easily.

@peterhapper4 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael, If you look down at the comments on this video from 2 years ago, you will see Neil Blaxill who I am pretty sure is the owner of the Mark II with wheel arch flares. If fact, he says that he built it himself from the engine and running gear of a V8 Supercharged XJR with the old body of a Mark II from the scrap yard . It is also my favourite. Thanks for watching, Peter

A nice selection - but the average age of the drivers must be about 76 ? .... I'm surprised they managed to get there at all !! ... The marshals didn't really help matters, as they had less of a clue where to park the cars than the poor people driving them.
