nice video. i thought for a start that you wanted to show off your new tool box. i looked at those when i was in SGS Derby. just for your information if your gas struts fail then take yours into SGS. they re gassed my original ones on my XJS for around £15 each. brilliant and super helpful.

I guess my only other engineering observation would be that with any cantilevered item, all of the tolerances and clearances are additive and get magnified over the distance they extend. Any micromotion at all in how all of the parts fit together from the door shoe mount to the tip will contribute and result in greater motion farther out on the assembly. I keep a Urethane adhesive called Fusion around to improve these attachments. It is a rubbery single component adhesive that fills gaps, but is removable to allow for future disassembly if needed. Also make sure the large torx screw that holds the mirror assembly to the door frame is very tight. If you have a point in the acceleration band that causes the mirror to go into resonance, then adding mass to the mirror plate will lower its resonance frequency.

Hi John, I didn't realise that the mirror casing bent forward as well as back! .....every day in every way etc. I'd suggest a little smear of petroleum jelly (or even copper-slip) on the bellow piece to keep it supple , and help with the age hardening process, .Another good, informative wee video.

Thanks Harry. yes, I should have done some protection process on that. Its VERY thin. Some off camera remedial work to do there👍

I would use 3M silicone paste, spray or DC4 instead, since petroleum jelly can deteriorate some rubber compounds. The rubber is probably EPDM.

Thanks John. Was it successful? I must confess I found myself holding my breath when you were levering those tabs! Cheers, Tim

Hi John...another excellent video! I have a question...do you have a video of how to swap the sideview mirror control switch I'm thinking to replace it with a new one>>> thank you Sir! goodnight!

My mirror remote button only moves both mirrors up and down not left and right. Any ideas?
@ToTheGarage5 жыл бұрын
Hi David Could be like mine that the mechanism is a bit stiff in that plane. However its more likely that the contacts in the mirror control joystick are dirty

I have xkr with mortorised side mirrors but the left side stopped folding, can you give me some advice or link?

If you wish to improve the magnetizing effort, strike the screwdriver shaft sharply while in the device.
@ToTheGarage5 жыл бұрын
I Knew the striking could cause magnetising effects but had not considered Combining it with my device to amplify the effect👍👍

John please stop speeding up the video. It's like watching Charlie Chaplin in speed. It's so irritating to not see the finer detail if what you are doing. It was very very bad on the carbon fibre wrapping video you did. Please no more !!!
