A jaguar can break through and hold on the crocs head. but its takes energy and the jaguars life is at extreme risks. If the jag has come up with strategies like it did with the caiman, maybe the jag will win. But really no matter how strong the crocs bite force is, or the jags bite force is. Both of them wont meet.

This indeed happened here in Brazil, but not in the Amazon: it actually happened in the *Pantanal* (wetlands located in Brazil's middle-western region). This reptile is not a croc, either: it's a *caiman* (a species of alligator). In Brazilian Portuguese, we call this reptile by the name *jacaré* (or *jacaré-açu* when it's black and bigger). The big cat is indeed a jaguar, but here in Brazil we call it by the name *onça pintada.* The word *pintada* means _dappled,_ and the word _onça_ is a Portuguese variant of this animal's scientific (i.e. Latin) name _Panthera onca._

@@stephenblackwell5533 Yup, our _onças pintadas_ ("dappled jaguars") hunt and eat _jacarés_ (caimans) very frequently: about 31% of their diet are capybaras and 20% are _jacarés._ There are some cool videos of onças pintadas killing jacarés out there. E.g. search for _Onça Pintada x Jacaré do Pantanal_ (it means "Dappled Jaguar versus Caiman from the Pantanal"). There's another one where the onça is in the zoo here in São Paulo city and then it sees an egret and catches it. The title is _Onça ataca garça no zoológico de são paulo._

I’ve seen this whole episode on this Jaguar. It hadn’t eaten for weeks/month and had grown desperate looking for food. It swam UP river AGAINST the current for over 4 miles before it finally found some. RESPECT

I totally admire the agility, courage, athleticism, sheer grit, and strength of the jaguar to do this. What I truly cannot fathom is how they can consistently do this when they are under murky water. I mean, why doesn't the crocodile have the advantage under water with their own speed to bite the cat first, and especially knowing the cat HAS to bite so perfectly close to the head to keep from getting chomped and twisted by the powerful jaws of the croc. Simply amazing

Hopefully ranchers will leave them alone too. Did you know that Jaguars are native to the United States? They were sadly wiped out by American ranchers and poachers. They used to live around the U.S. and Mexico border. There are some jaguars that still manage to get across the border into Arizona from Mexico. The last jaguar in the United States was sadly killed for his fur in 2018. Who knows if they will ever live in the United States again, now that Trump is putting up a wall on the border.
