The best Jaguar tunnel run I've ever done is in Santa Monica, CA where the I10 branches off to Coastal highway 1, where the tunnel passes under a local park . I did it in a Jag XK-120 with split manifold and glass packs. Had to change my underwear afterwards!!!!!

I remember a car magazine comparo with an 87 XJS-HE V12, an 87 Corvette, an 87 Porsche 944 turbo, an 87 Nissan 300ZX turbo, and two or three others, ALL AUTOMATICS. Strangely, the Jag used a Turbo Hydra-matic from GM. From a stop, at WOT, it would upshift to second at a crazy 72 MPH. However, once in second gear, it would neither kick down to first at WOT, nor accept a manual downshift above 25 MPH. The poor Jag got left behind out of turn after turn after turn after....
@rconboard27092 жыл бұрын
Yes, the transmission is set up really weird. It never ever kicks down to first and it doesn’t let you do it manually above 40 kph… When going higher Autobahn speeds, it’s really fun, shifting manually into second at 90ish mph and then just leave everybody in the dust. However, when going fast around corners, I watch out that she never shifts up to second because I need that power on corner exit. So all in all it’s not a great track car, even though the handling around tight bends really impresses me over and over again. Thanks for commenting!
@paulwagener48662 жыл бұрын
"it’s really fun, shifting manually into second at 90ish mph@@rconboard2709" I have to assume that you meant manually DOWNSHIFTING FROM THIRD into second, or alternatively meant upshifting to second at 90ish KILOMETERS per hour. Your valves would be floating before ninety MPH in first, and you would cough a connecting rod or two.😱

@@rconboard2709I have a 1982 Xjs and if you stamp on the pedal it will shift to first below 40kmh, I think there is a solenoid switch. Worth having a look into that

Thanks! No; the exhaust is stock with all 4 silencers. Maybe one day, i’ll modify it. But for now, I’m very happy with it. Because the quiet sound suits the character of the car really well.

That's really slow for a jaguar...even though it has 12 cylinders its displacement is very small at about 5.3 litres or 325 cubic inches and 262 hp that alot of moving parts for only a modest power output

Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in EU :-( In Germany the Green party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing petrol stations to only one state operated station per city. :-(
