First off, I don't like that only 1 belt drives everything.
It turns out that although one of my pulleys was indeed bad, my screaming noise was actually due to the water pump. I had replaced the reservoir and needed to work out more air bubbles out of the coolant.

NB: Jaguar Service Bulletin JTB00045 Issue 3 (May 29, 2009) suggests using a flanged idler pulley instead of smooth.

I think you may have solved my problem! now... any solutions for an engine coolant sensor faulting and putting my Jag in to a Limited Performance mode?? Replaced the sensor and burped the coolant ... TC and LP mode reoccurs after about 20 miles of 80mph driving each time... Ill stop and shut off for about 10 seconds and everything will be normal again....

I had a goofy sensor but it fortunately didn't affect the engine. Just an annoying light. What I finally got to work was buying the sensor embedded in a brand new OEM tank. I bought 2 aftermarket ones from Welsh on ebay and the quality was horrible. The sensor was a shoddy attempt at soldering wire elements... Both times.

@@EdBwoy sounds like you replaced the coolant level sensor... I had/have a temp sensor problem code popping up... is there a specific way to get air out of the lines?? maybe tripping the sensor?

Ahhh yes. Sorry I was stuck on how much of a headache the level sensor had been. I believe to properly bleed the system of air, all I did was open the reservoir cap and *slowly* fill it. I can't recall if I played with the relief plug of not at that moment, but a few days later, the air worked itself out and the level in the reservoir dropped, then I refilled it and it was over. I'll see if I can locate the service manual later, to see what their procedure was.

Hi, nice video what year is your XJ8? They really are stunning cars, do you find it reliable... maybe do a review?

+Anthony thanks for the compliment. Mine is an 05 long wheelbase, and I have found it to be generally reliable. My biggest surprise was when my throttle body went bad, but that could happen to any car really. Well, and that time I jumped a curb which damaged a height sensor making the car rise all the way up in the rear like a 4x4.

And good idea on the review. I have some potential buyers so I probably need to get on that soon. If I may ask, what is the ideal length of a review video you'd like to see? Basic format of driving impressions, and the troubles I've run into?

Yep standard length your experiences on ownership, problems ... walk around, driving impressions etc. I think a lot of people get intimidated by the potential problems these cars can have and the cost of said repairs and as a result stay away and miss out on a truly wonderful driving experience. lets face it, all cars eventually develop problems but for some reason, Jaguars because of their past issues with reliability, cannot seem to escape the stigma attached to their some of their cars...so sad. You have demonstrated in your videos, that with a little elbow grease and some initiative.... some of these "issues" can be resolved quite inexpensively. Hope she finds a good home :)

Working on it. Thanks for the motivation. And you're right. The most expensive component must have been the throttle body at $250; a price I'd hardly call unreasonable. Otherwise, I have been able to use S-Type, Lincoln LS and some Ford parts. I edited out the part of this video that shows the tensioner engraved with FoMoCo (Ford Motor Company). I'll admit, most quotes I got for labor at mechanic shops were absurd, borderline laughable. The Jag dealership charged at the nominal labor rate these days when I needed the transmission updated. It is truly sad how badly the used car values drop on these cars. For what I'm asking for this car, you could probably buy a similar year and mileage Toyota Corolla which people will not have a problem paying asking price for. Difference is that as a sum of its parts, the Jaguar is still a quality product and can match the gas mileage. Well, almost. The depreciation was good for me as a buyer, but it sucks to be on the other end of the table now. Haha.
