Thanks Jag Man, I've just bought a 2005 XJ8 4.2litre in Radiance Red, what a cruisemobile ! My wife keeps finding excuses to drive it. I went for alloy construction this time round as I well recall rust in my 1963 Mk2 and my 84 series 3

I bought an X300 1995 3.2 and couldn't be happier. Purposely avoided anything post 1997 for the true Coventry Jag experience. Enjoying your vids.

This car is now for sale by you? Or did you sell it and it's up again? Also those early 6hp26 ZFs were a bit notorious. I had an '02 S Type in which I had to change the box and it wasn't cheap! They had an issue reasonably well known in relevant circles called "the lurch" where they would bump forward on pulling up as they shifted down to first. It was really annoying and detracted immensely from the joy of ownership. Jag eventually fixed it with software updates but here in Aus a lot of cars never got them.

I'm biased, but the x308 was the last true Jaguar imo. The long bonnet line of a classic car ended with the x308. The x350 under Ford retained the boat tail end , the luxurious interior and classic xj form generally still , but I think it represents a step down from the x308 only because Jaguars should have long and large bonnets imo. The x350 is marvellous, technically superior to the x308. It may represent the last classic Jaguar, but the pinnacle occurred before it. Then again I prefer the s3 xj to my x308, and I'm sure my S1 will fit somewhere thereabouts. Great sounding engine . Peter

You mention that an ATF change is probably due. If you do one, do a full flush and don't make the mistake of using just any multi-vehicle ATF. Bad idea. There is pretty much one ATF only for your ZF 6hp26 transmission, and that is Lifeguard 6, and you'll need about 14 Liters. I just did an ATF flush on one Jag, and I am currently doing one on another (amongst other things).
@tjmthejagmandownunder Жыл бұрын
Thks Pete Central automatics do mine. $395. Correct fluid and full flush. A little more experience on the xjr as the pan incorporates the the filter
@peterfromaustralia2878 Жыл бұрын
@@tjmthejagmandownunder I hate to be the bearer of bad news: If you paid only AU$395 in a garage to have the full flush done, you don't get the correct ATF. After long research I found the cheapest place in Australia for Lifeguard 6: It is $525 plus postage (about $60). So even, if they pick it up for you for free and charge you only 14 of those 20 L, the ATF alone is $368. Of course the filter is part of the pan. At my XJ8 as well. After very long research that can be found for $75, plus $35 for the valve body to case adapter seal kit. Swapping all that with full flush takes a very long time, too. I also contacted an ATF wholesaler and found out, that they supply "their" mechanics with incorrect ATF for the 6hp26. And the claims by multi-vehicle ATF manufacturers are a farce, if you start looking closer into it. They cannot be believed.

Great videos, keep them coming. With the X350, there was a 3.5 and 4.2. V8. Do you have any preference and why? They look a great buy.
@tjmthejagmandownunder Жыл бұрын
4.2 would be the pick but both good. I believthe smaller one was for tax thresholds
