I own a 2014 XKR. Bought with 65k miles back in 2020... so the previous owner definitely drove it. Its been flawless for the most part.. only issue was a coolant leak at the back of the motor from a hose. I've upgraded the SC pulley, had it tuned (pushing 650hp) added a quicksilver supersport exhaust... this car is a beast. I love it. Its at 78k miles now. Definitely have to monitor the oil. I added a OBDII monitor for the coolant temp. Runs and looks like new.

The later XKR’s have no dipstick so it’s impossible to check the oil level manually, you have to rely on the dash readout. They also have no temperature gauge. I can confirm the water pump early failure, on mine at only 40,000miles. I would advise not just looking at low mileage cars that have sat around for months on end , a daily driver would be a better option as there is more chance any faults have shown up and been fixed by the owner. Go for a combination of a late model with the best mileage and condition , don’t focus on low mileage alone. A very decent roundup and buyers guide 👍👍

As the owner of a 2011 XKR 5.0 Supercharged convertible, 510 BHP feels perfect. Only thing the car needed to properly harness that power (mostly) was a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires.

We've driven Michelin Pilot Sport 4S on several cars and always found them great, good to hear they also get a thumbs up for the XKR 👍

X150 4.2 rarely suffered with timing chain issues, as tensioner were upgraded from plastic However VVT issues are common as the small oil ways can get blocked ,due to inadequate oil changes. Jaguar also had problems with fuel injectors blocking, causing lean running and uneven tick over. 44K BG fuel cleaner was used to resolve this (in some cases)

Or alternatively use shell V power at least every other fill up. It's how I look after the injectors on my 3.0ltr supercharged XJ, the rest of the time I use supermarket E5 petrol.

Brilliantly presented - thank you for taking the time to make this. I have 06 XK - covered 185k, daily drive and it runs beautifully. Changed water pump twice(they become noisy), radiator for preventative maintenance and General consumables, brakes, pads etc..,it's been faultless otherwise. Love the car - sure it will easily go over 200k without major issues 🇬🇧

What excellent advice in the video. I have a wonderful 08 XK, with walnut dash, walnut finish steering wheel and even a walnut wooden auto gear stick. No car which is nearly 15 years old will be fault-free, but I have found an excellent, independent Jaguar specialist nearby who is much cheaper (and better) than the big Jag dealer down the road. I have had the speedometer changed, a new battery and new front discs, but otherwise she has run beautifully. I use her for getting to the office, w/e trips away and she outperforms most of the boy racers we come across. My advice? Buy a good, regularly serviced example, have it independently looked over and you won't look back.

One thing I will say about anyone who is thinking about getting a soft top. I have a 2007 XKR convertible which i only use in the good weather. Because I always have the roof down, I turn off the aircon. On a recent trip down to Italy, the aircon packed up in Switzerland (we had the roof up as it was raining), and by the time we got to Lake Garda it was 39 degrees, which was absolutely unbearable as we would have cooked with the roof up. When I took the car to a Jag specialist in the UK, they told me I need a new compressor (££££££££'s). I was told that I didn't use the aircon enough which is why it packed up. So folks, use it or lose it!

I recently bought a 2007 xk with 90k miles and a full service history from Jaguar ! Amazing car but I am now giving it the love it didn’t get at Jaguar ! Such as a wheel alignment so all four wheel don’t point in different directions and the steering wheel is straight 😂 next up is the gearbox service 👍👍

There is a 2008/09 XKRS with the 4.2 SC, I got one in January and its amazing, 2 years looking out for one and kept it under wraps and its getting attention everywhere I go

Ive had an 07 XKR 4.2 for just over a year now. Only thing i had to replace were 2 rear parking sensors. I too have the centre screen freeze on the jaguar logo from time to time. Not sure why this happens but usually, if you get out and lock the car for a few minutes, it cures it and all is well again! Great car though. I smile every time i fire up that V8!

For US drivers you might consider the XKR despite its premium price, it’s insurance cost is roughly half of an XK. Quite unusual that a much more expensive and “racier” XKR can cost less to ensure but the insurance industry feels that those owners of XKRs were much more careful and less likely to hot rod then people who wanted the entry-level XK. I could save you a couple of thousand dollars a year.

You make a salient point I'm sure 500+ HP does over burden the cars tires and suspension.

@@themilesdriven 510HP feels glorious in my 2011 XKR convertible :) You were right to recommend changing the gearbox oil and filter. I'd also recommend doing the e-diff fluid as well if there's no documentation showing that it's been changed.

Hello all, I have a 07 XK it won't start for the third time in 3 weeks. The first 2 times the starter was the diagnosed problem, I have yet to get it towed to a mechanic due to holiday weekend. Any ideas what this persisting problem could be??
