Awesome video! The re spray looks awesome you two did such an amazing job on that XK8. The XK8 Jaguar is actually my dream car and I have been a huge fan of that car since I was 3 years old because my grandfather used to own one in the late 2000s. But what a gorgeous looking car

I got around the problem of the rubber seal for the top by the windshield by stuffing some plastic covered clothes line in where the rubber was exposing the gap, letting it be painted without removing the rubber.

Looking good, but at what cost? A lot of work needed in preparation. Question: why have you taken the side bumper strips off?
@maddercustom3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, we’re getting there with this project. You’re right about the prep, the hours in needed to get the best finish are all in the prep. It’s hard to show on the camera but there was a mismatch of colours on the panels on the front of the car and the doors and rear wings had some dents from car doors being opened on them so it made sense to just repaint the whole car. We removed the side strips as it’s easy to do and you can get the best finish without having a bike up of paint where they stick to the car. The second episode should be landing in the next couple of weeks as we’re nearly finished with the Jag now. Thanks for watching 🤟

Looking forward to seeing the end result. Owning a Seafrost coloured XK8 convertible that is properly in better condition than yours - no rust or side bumper strips - what would be the cost of a respray? The only issue currently is stone chips!
@maddercustom3 жыл бұрын
@@dougwarren2992 if it’s just stone chips you would most likely get away with a front end - bonnet, bumper and wings and fade in on the wings/doors. Generally speaking that would se you back around £1800. What we’ve done would be more like £7k roughly speaking.

@@maddercustom it came out of the factory with mismatched front bumper colour. The bumpers were painted in a different place to the rest of the car.

Thanks for your reply. I understand your reasoning regarding spraying the front end of the car, but my only concern with this would be due to the light colour, how well it would match the rest of the car. I have seen other cars that obviously have had part resprays and when the sun hits the car, you can see the difference.
@maddercustom3 жыл бұрын
Bad colour matches are common, body shops can tempt you in to a job with a cheap price but you generally end up paying for it somewhere down the line… it’s best to get a spectrometer on the paint before you mix it which will tell you the nearest mix of base coat. Also blending the colour on a panel will mean you lose any marginal difference and really cannot notice any variance (if it’s done well). Where abouts in the UK are you? We’re based in Norfolk

Surely it's not good to wet sand primer? It will hold on to the moisture then come out in the paint as micro blisters in the finish at a later date? Genuine question btw not hate😂
@maddercustom3 жыл бұрын
Wet sanding has been done for years, the primer is fully cured and the water isn’t around for long enough to cause micro blister issues. We use a good quality primer which isn’t hydroscopic as well. The primer was left ample time to dry and the car was on a spray cycle for a while before ground coat which would have baked any moisture out. 🤟😘

Unbeknown to us until we edited the video, the lapels were set to L and R. Annoying… Price wise for something like this your looking at around £8k region all in but it all depends on how good/bad the car is. Some body shops will be far less but you get what you pay for.

@@garyvanremortel5218 hi Gary, the base coat metallic was Aquamax through a Sata 5500 using 1,2 needle at 2 bar pressure. The final control coat went on at 1,5 bar. Clear coat wise we opted for PPG D8131, this was through a Sata Phaser using 1,2 needle at 2 bar as well.
